We offer many activities such as Flying & Gliding, DofE, Shooting and many other opportunities.

Based in Garston, 90 (Speke) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets(RAFAC) are a uniformed youth organisation for young people both male & female aged 12-18yrs

This is an outstanding milestone and a testament to Parker’s commitment, consistency, and capability as a senior cadet within 90 (Speke).

Gold Leadership is the top tier of the RAFAC leadership pathway. It’s designed to develop cadets into confident, capable leaders who can plan, brief, motivate, and manage teams in challenging and dynamic situations.

To achieve Gold, cadets must demonstrate:

- Advanced leadership theory and practical understanding
- Strong communication and briefing skills
- Effective decision‑making under pressure
- The ability to lead teams through complex tasks
- Consistent leadership performance across multiple assessed activities

Gold isn’t just about knowing how to lead — it’s about proving you can do it reliably, professionally, and with the right attitude.

Sgt Parker has shown exceptional maturity and leadership throughout the assessment process. To reach Gold, Parker successfully completed:

A huge congratulations to Cpl Barker and Cpl Cleverley, who have both achieved their Silver Leadership qualification - a major milestone in the RAFAC Leadership & Management training pathway.

Silver Leadership isn’t just a badge; it represents a cadet who has stepped up, taken responsibility, and shown they can lead with confidence, clarity, and professionalism.

To earn Silver, cadets must demonstrate:

📣 Strong communication skills and the ability to brief and debrief effectively
đŸ«Ą Confident team leadership, including managing small groups under pressure
📚 Solid understanding of leadership theory, decision‑making models, and situational leadership
🧭 The ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate tasks while maintaining RAFAC standards

For anyone who doesn’t know, MOI (Method of Instruction) is the RAFAC teaching qualification — cadets learn how to plan lessons, deliver engaging training, and communicate clearly. It takes confidence, preparation, and proper instructional technique to pass

Multi‑Activity Weekend (Day 2)

With brilliant support from 1982 (Huyton) & 2359 (Woolton), Day 2 of our Multi‑Activity weekend delivered another packed programme of learning, teamwork, and progression across five core RAFAC training areas. The energy was high, the standards were impressive, and every cadet pushed themselves to get the most out of the day.

Blue Space Badge
Cadets explored the fundamentals of space science — from orbital mechanics to satellite operations — building an understanding of how space impacts everyday life and modern defence. This badge gives cadets a hands‑on introduction to STEM concepts and the wider space environment.

Blue Radio Badge
Communication skills were front and centre as cadets learned how to operate radios correctly, follow voice procedure, and understand the basics of signal transmission. This badge builds confidence, clarity, and discipline — essential skills for fieldcraft, leadership, and wider RAFAC activities.

Blue Leadership Badge
Cadets worked through structured leadership tasks designed to develop teamwork, decision‑making, and problem‑solving under pressure. The Blue level focuses on communication, supporting peers, and understanding what effective leadership looks like in practice.

Flight Simulator Training
Cadets took to the virtual skies, practising aircraft handling, navigation, and situational awareness in a controlled environment. Flight Sim sessions help build confidence and aviation knowledge, giving cadets a taste of real‑world flying principles.

Road Marching Training Package
With DofE and Nijmegen in mind, cadets covered pacing, route discipline, foot care, and safe marching techniques. This package builds endurance, resilience, and teamwork — all vital for longer‑distance events and future expedition success.

A huge well done to every cadet who took part today. Your enthusiasm, focus, and teamwork made Day 2 a real success, and you represented 90 (Speke) Squadron brilliantly alongside our partner squadrons.

⭐ Multi‑Activity Weekend: Day 1 Highlights!

90 (Speke) have collaborated with 1982 (Huyton) & 2359 (Woolton) to deliver a non-residential Multi‑Activity Weekend.

Day 1 has been an absolute powerhouse of achievement, with our cadets diving into a wide range of activities and earning multiple Blue Badges across the board. Their effort, focus, and enthusiasm have set the tone for a brilliant weekend.

🎯 Archery – Blue Badge
Cadets developed their precision, control, and consistency on the range. Learning correct stance, safe bow handling, and target technique. Many showed fantastic progression, hitting tighter groupings as the day went on.

đŸ“» Radios – Blue Badge
Through practical radio exercises, cadets learned how to communicate clearly, follow correct procedures, and operate RAFAC radio equipment safely. They demonstrated strong teamwork and confidence in message passing.

🌌 Space – Blue Badge
Cadets explored the wonders of space science, from planets and satellites to orbits and exploration missions. The badge builds STEM understanding and curiosity and they absolutely smashed it.

đŸš¶ Road Marching Training Package
Cadets took on structured marching training, focusing on pacing, endurance, and discipline. This package prepares them for future road marching events and teaches resilience, teamwork, and controlled movement over distance.

✈ Flight Sim
Cadets stepped into the virtual cockpit, learning the basics of flight controls, navigation, and situational awareness. The Flight Sim gives them a taste of aviation decision‑making — and they flew brilliantly.

💛 Cpl Barker Earns His MOI!

A huge congratulations to Corporal Barker, who has officially achieved his Method of Instruction (MOI) qualification — earning his yellow lanyard and joining the ranks of RAFAC’s trained instructors.

To reach this milestone, Cpl Barker had to:

- Complete the MOI course, learning how to plan, deliver, and evaluate lessons effectively.
- Demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills in front of peers and assessors.
- Show confidence and professionalism in teaching cadets across a range of subjects.

Now qualified, he can deliver training sessions independently, support new cadets through their classifications, and help develop the next generation of Air Cadets at 90 (Speke) Squadron.

A fantastic achievement and a real example of dedication and growth within RAFAC.

Sqn Leader Ellis visited to help cadets got hands-on with the Scorpion training rifle, building confidence, safety awareness, and marksmanship fundamentals.
IWT is part of a structured programme of supervised training where Cadets are taught weapon handling skills which emphasises safe and responsible use.

🏃 Sports
High-energy games and fitness drills kept everyone moving, competing, and laughing.

The win wasn’t ours today, but the squadron spirit was strong, the energy was high, and every cadet gave it their all.

Another brilliant parade night for our cadets, packed with hands‑on learning, teamwork, and prep for the upcoming Field Training Day. The squadron showed real focus and enthusiasm across every activity.

đŸȘ– Fieldcraft Observations
Cadets sharpened their awareness and attention to detail, practising how to spot movement, identify features in the environment, and work quietly and effectively as a team. Great skills for FTD and beyond.

đŸ”„ Fieldcraft Cooking
Noodles were on the menu as cadets learned how to safely prepare and heat food in the field. Plenty of teamwork, problem‑solving, and a few creative cooking techniques along the way.

🔗 STEM Challenge: The Human Knot
A fast‑paced, laughter‑filled STEM activity where cadets had to untangle themselves using communication, logic, and teamwork. A simple challenge that always brings out leadership and quick thinking.

đŸŽ–ïž Drill Practice for FTD
Precision, discipline, and teamwork were the focus as cadets refined their drill ahead of Field Training Day. Strong effort across the board — standards are rising every week.
