On Thursday evening at the LWA we played an English Civil War game 400pts DBR game, with a bit of a twist the figures we used were 25mm Garrison, Minifigs and a few Hinchcliffe, these figure where designed 50+years ago, we think they still look good, it is a trip down nostalgia road.
The armies deployed traditional, with the Roundheads putting their field guns in front of his army (this was a mistaken),
The Royalist having consistency bad movement dies, so started to use their superior firepower and the look of the dies, so when the Royalist launched their cavalry attack on their right wing the Roundhead army broke,
Even though the game was a lot shorter than expected, we enjoyed the game and will be doing more in the future.

At the LWA we had a game of DBR using 28mm on a 8x 6ft table, Imperialists v Ottoman Turks late 16th century 400pts a side.
The Turks with bad movement dice started to slowly push around the flanks, The Imperialists pushed on the centre of The Turkish guns being ineffective and relying on hordes to hold the gun line wasi not a good idea evan with defences had problems hold The Imperialists pike and shot, the Janissaries through themselves at the pike and shot to slow the attack, on the flanks the Turks were having a lot more success with camel guns, light infantry and suported by the spahis, a takings on the Imperialists Pistols and lancer cavalry,
The Imperialists flanks collapsed before the Turkish centre giving the Turks a victory.
We both enjoyed a close run game.

At Phalanx today the LWA put on Ramillies 23rd of May 1706, using Black Powder with over 1200 figures,
The game rattled along, with the French being shocked at the speed of the Allied infantry advance across the stream and marsh, and the Allied weight numbers on the cavalry wing quickly proved to be unstoppable, the game went more or to history, The Duke of Malborough greatest of victory.

One of members has said of these figures "I've been wargaming for over 50 year, and I've always had a soft spot for Greenwood and Ball, Minifigs and Hinchcliffe, these 25mm figures designed in the 70s don't look to shabby using modern painting techniques,
Working on the cavalry and dragoons".
