Options for Supported Living

Options for Supported Living A better world for people with disabilities! We are a registered charity and therefore every penny is spent on providing great support.

Options provides innovative and flexible support to people with learning disabilities across Merseyside, with a range of support needs. The organisation was one of the first of its kind in the UK, established in 1993, and has a proven track record of providing community based supported living for people who want their own place to live with support. The first services were provided in Liverpool an

d Sefton. Each was based on the principle of finding out what each person to be supported uniquely wanted and needed, and then designing a support service around him/her (what is now called person centredness). Options seeks to support anyone with a learning disability, no matter how complex their support needs. We are committed to turning no-one away and to sticking with people when their lives become very difficult. Options expanded to the Wirral in 2001. To date, across Merseyside, we support 70 people through community outreach and we have developed supported living with 84 people. Outreach Services now operate on the Wirral, in Liverpool, Sefton, Halton, Cheshire and Knowsley. These services support people with learning disabilities by promoting community inclusion through voluntary or paid work, college and social activity and offering valuable respite for families and carers. The support will vary from 3 hours a day to 15 hours a day, usually to someone who lives at home and is supported by their family or another provider agency, or lives without much support. Supported Living Services tend to be 24 hours a day (but can be less), with waking or sleep in staff at night time. With Supported Living, Options will usually be the main provider of support, we will often assist the person to find a house and to establish their own home from scratch. The organisation is committed to staying small with few management tiers and an unwavering commitment to support people with complex support needs. We have approximately 300 staff and provide Β£5 million of services. Though remaining small in structure, we are always looking out for support workers to join our team. Work is about much more than a payslip.

It's about confidence, routine, purpose and being part of a team.

Yesterday we shared Adam's story as part of Learning Disability Week 2026.

Every person deserves the opportunity to be recognised for what they can do.

Do you see Adam in paid work?

When people think about technology, they often think about the latest gadgets or complicated systems.

For David, it's much simpler than that.

His tablet helps him enjoy some of his favourite things every day. From watching music videos by artists like Michael Jackson and Tina Turner to independently choosing what he wants to watch, it gives him choice, familiarity and enjoyment.

It's something he navigates entirely on his own, often sharing what he's watching with the people around him.

As part of Learning Disability Week 2026, we're sharing David's story.

Having a job is about more than earning money.

It's about being part of a team, developing skills, building confidence and contributing to your community.

Adam's story shows what can happen when people are given opportunities to succeed in work and be recognised for what they can do.

As part of Learning Disability Week 2026, we're proud to share Adam's story.

Tomorrow marks the start of Learning Disability Week 2026.

This year we're joining Mencap's national Learning Disability Week campaign and supporting the theme, Do You See Me?

Over the next seven days we'll be sharing seven stories from people supported by Options.

Stories about work, leadership, health, independence, technology, advocacy and creativity.

Every story starts with the same question:

Do you see me?

A huge congratulations to Liam on completing his Ultra Marathon challenge!

Covering more than 100km and tackling over 1,300 metres of elevation, Liam came 45th out of 772 people! Liam showed remarkable determination, resilience and commitment from start to finish. Not even the heat could stop him reaching the finish line.

Thank you, Liam, for taking on this challenge and helping raise funds to support people with disabilities to live full, active and inclusive lives. You can still donate today through this link https://options.enthuse.com/pf/liam

Liam says "Thank you everybody for all your support and all your messages!"

Well done, Liam! πŸ‘
