Could your organisation withstand a social engineering attack?

The recent Department for Education (DfE) data breach is a timely reminder that cybercriminals don't always need to exploit a technical vulnerability to gain access.

In this latest data breach, we look at:
πŸ”Ή What happened in the DfE breach
πŸ”Ή How social engineering can be used to manipulate staff
πŸ”Ή What the incident means for adult social care providers
πŸ”Ή Key checks organisations should carry out
πŸ”Ή Practical steps to strengthen cybersecurity and protect personal information

Cybersecurity isn't just about technology β€” your people and processes are equally important.

New guidance: Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA)

The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA) is now fully in force, bringing updates to UK data protection law that affect adult social care providers.

While the Act doesn't replace UK GDPR or the Data Protection Act 2018, it introduces some important changes that organisations should be aware of, including a new right for individuals to complain directly to your organisation, updates to Subject Access Requests (SARs), and changes relating to AI and recognised legitimate interests.

To help providers understand what has changed, Liverpool Social Care Partnership has produced a practical guide explaining the new legislation in plain English.

The guide includes:

β€’An overview of the key changes.
β€’What they mean for adult social care providers.
β€’A simple compliance checklist.
β€’Links to official guidance and legislation.
β€’If you've recently completed your DSPT, now is a great time to review your policies and ensure they reflect the latest requirements.
