St Joseph's Hospice

St Joseph's Hospice St. Joseph's Hospice is the oldest and largest hospice on Merseyside. The hospice in Thornton, opened in 1974.
(1)

St Joseph's Hospice (or Jospice) was founded in 1962 by Father Francis O’Leary, while working as a young priest in Pakistan. It is the oldest and largest hospice on Merseyside and has been providing palliative and end of life care for adult patients from across Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley and West Lancashire for more than 40 years. We are a registered charity and our specialist nursing teams care

for over 200 people with a wide range of conditions every year. We also care for and support our patients’ families and carers. We have 29 patient rooms and are fortunate to be located in a beautiful setting within a conservation area and 12 acres of natural woodland. We do not charge for our care and rely on our local communities to continue to support the hospice. Around two-thirds of our funding comes from charitable giving, including donations, fundraising and legacies.

πŸ’œ Thank You πŸ’œ

Every day, the generosity of our supporters helps us provide specialist care, comfort and dignity to patients and their families at St Joseph's Hospice.

Your donations make moments like this possible.
These powerful words from Carley reflect the difference hospice care can make – not only for patients, but for the people who love them.

"They gave me my mum back rather than me being her carer. I could be her daughter again."

Thanks to your support, families can spend precious time together, creating memories and focusing on what matters most, while our dedicated teams provide expert care and support.

To everyone who donates, fundraises, volunteers or supports us in any way – thank you. You are helping us make a real difference to local families every day.

πŸ…πŸ‘ A huge congratulations to Ryan and his brothers, who successfully completed the Windermere Marathon at the weekend in support of St Joseph's Hospice!

Taking on 26.2 miles is an incredible achievement, and we're so grateful that they chose to do it in aid of our hospice. Their dedication, determination and fundraising efforts will help us continue providing specialist care and support to local patients and families when they need it most.

Ryan and his family took on this challenge in memory of loved ones and to give back to the hospice after experiencing first-hand the care and compassion we provide.

There's still time to support their amazing efforts! If you'd like to help them reach their fundraising goal, we'd be incredibly grateful for any donation, no matter how big or small.

πŸŒˆπŸŽ€ There's still time to be part of our Rainbow of Ribbons! πŸŽ€πŸŒˆ

As we enter the final weeks of June, we'd love to invite you to dedicate a ribbon in celebration or memory of someone special.

Each ribbon carries a personal message of love, remembrance, hope or gratitude, creating a beautiful and colourful display in the grounds of St Joseph's Hospice.

Ribbons can be purchased until 30 June, and our Rainbow of Ribbons display will remain in place throughout the first week of July, giving everyone the opportunity to visit, reflect and see the messages that mean so much to our community.

Whether you're remembering a loved one, celebrating a special person, or simply showing your support for the hospice, your ribbon will help make a difference.

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’œ Good luck to Ryan Howard and his brothers as they take on the Windermere Marathon on 14 June in support of St Joseph's Hospice!

This incredible challenge is deeply personal for Ryan and his family. Having experienced first-hand the care, compassion and support provided by the hospice to a close family member, as well as other loved ones affected by terminal illness, they wanted to give something back to a place that means so much to them.

The stunning Windermere Marathon may offer breathtaking views, but 26.2 miles is no small feat! Every step they take will help raise vital funds for St Joseph's Hospice, enabling us to continue providing specialist care, comfort and dignity to patients and their families.

As an independent hospice, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to keep delivering our services, and we're incredibly grateful to Ryan and his brothers for taking on this challenge.

Please join us in wishing them the very best of luck this weekend – we'll be cheering them on every mile of the way! πŸ™Œ

πŸ’œ What a wonderful time we had celebrating our incredible volunteers!

Every day, our volunteers give their time, energy and compassion to support the hospice, helping to make each day a little brighter for patients, families, visitors and staff alike.

Their commitment, kindness and dedication are truly awe-inspiring, and we are so grateful for everything they do. Whether they're offering a listening ear, helping at events, supporting our shops or lending a hand behind the scenes, their impact is felt across every corner of the hospice.

To all of our amazing volunteers – thank you. We simply couldn't do what we do without you, and we hope you enjoyed a celebration that was as special as you are.

πŸ’œ From all of us at the hospice, thank you for making such a difference.
