đź’™ Volunteers' Week Spotlight đź’™

After a spinal injury in 2021 changed her life, Suzie faced challenges with mobility, fatigue, memory, and confidence.

When she was introduced to The Brain Charity, she first attended one of our spinal injury support groups before taking a step back into the community through volunteering.

Years later, Suzie has become an invaluable member of our volunteer team, supporting multiple departments and helping others access the support they need.

"It gives me a reason to get out of the house, even on tough days. I've made friends, I feel part of something, and I'm doing work that matters."

Suzie's story is a reminder that volunteering can be about so much more than giving your time. It can provide purpose, connection, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating Suzie and all the volunteers who help make The Brain Charity such a welcoming and supportive community. đź’™

đź’™ Volunteers' Week Spotlight đź’™

For more than 10 years, Amber has been an invaluable part of The Brain Charity community.

After first coming to us for support, Amber began volunteering with our information and advice team before moving on to support our reception team, helping clients and volunteers feel welcome from the moment they arrive.

Amber says volunteering has helped her build confidence, develop new skills, and form lasting friendships.

"For me, volunteering has been an eye-opening experience that has shown me I am capable of learning new skills and building on my confidence."

Stories like Amber's remind us that volunteering isn't just about giving your time – it's about building connections, discovering new strengths, and being part of a supportive community.

This Volunteers' Week, we'd like to say a huge thank you to Amber and all our incredible volunteers. Your dedication helps make The Brain Charity the welcoming place it is today. đź’™

Lee volunteers in our gym, where he supports people accessing services and helps create a friendly, encouraging and welcoming environment. He is known for his positive attitude, approachability and willingness to go above and beyond for others.

He chose to volunteer because he enjoys supporting disabled people and being part of a space where people feel included and supported.

He reflects on his experience:

“The most memorable moment or experience from my time here is that everybody who comes here always enjoys it when I help them. The most important thing is they all enjoy and have a laugh and a good time!”

We’re incredibly grateful for Lee’s energy, kindness and dedication 💙

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating Alan — our April 2026 Volunteer Spotlight 💙

Alan volunteers in our café every Monday, bringing warmth, reliability and a friendly face to everyone who visits. He first came to The Brain Charity following a life-changing accident in 2003, which led him into a long rehabilitation journey with support from the organisation.

Through courses such as “Speaking With Confidence” and ongoing support, Alan rebuilt his confidence and began volunteering in our café — a role he has continued in for over two decades.

He reflects on what he enjoys most about volunteering:

“I just like to help out a lot, and I also love interacting with the people who come to the café and how they share their stories. I like to interact, knowing I have shared experiences. It is probably the best place ever. You get on with everyone: the customers, staff and volunteers. Everyone is treated the same, and that is lovely.”

We’re incredibly proud of Alan’s commitment and the positivity he brings to our community every week 💙
