Veterans Facing Homelessness? Help Is Available.

At Tom Harrison House, we understand that homelessness is often linked to complex challenges including addiction, poor mental health, trauma, and difficulties transitioning to civilian life.

Through our Reducing Veteran Homelessness Project (THH-RVH), funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust and in partnership with The Block Armed Forces Foundation we provide specialist support for Veterans across the Liverpool City Region who are struggling with addiction and/or mental health issues and are Homeless or at risk of Homelessness.

Our programme offers access to safe accommodation where appropriate and a tailored pathway to recovery, including:

πŸ”Ή Specialist addiction and mental health support
πŸ”Ή One-to-one therapy and peer mentoring
πŸ”Ή Life skills development and tenancy readiness
πŸ”Ή Intensive 12-week addiction treatment (where appropriate)
πŸ”Ή Ongoing aftercare, training, volunteering and employment support
πŸ”Ή Assistance accessing social housing and community services

What makes us different is our experienced team, many of whom have lived experience of military service and recovery themselves. We create an environment where Veterans feel understood, supported, and empowered to rebuild their lives.

Please help us spread the word. You never know who may need this support.

πŸŽ‰ Exciting News! πŸŽ‰

This has been right at the top of my bucket list and thank to a generous donation from Julie Lawson-Bem Events, Baytree CIC will be able to host our very first NAAFI Break.

πŸ“… 16th July
πŸ•  5:30pm – 8:30pm
πŸ“ Joseph Lappin Centre

This will be an opportunity to connect with others who have served in the military, share stories, make new friendships, and enjoy a relaxed and welcoming evening together.

For our first event, we’ll be serving a delicious curry night menu, inspired by my Caribbean heritage alongside a Sri Lankan curry recipe that I learned from one of my students. There will also be plenty of brews and my homemade mango lassi to enjoy.

My hope is to make the NAAFI Break a regular monthly event, creating a space where veterans and members of the armed forces community can come together for good food, good conversation, and mutual support.

If you or your organisation would be interested in sponsoring a future month, I’d love to hear from you.

We have already had 4 bikes donated πŸ‘πŸ‘ which has given some our beneficiaries the opportunity to take part in this years triathlon πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ thanks to the guys who donated you are very much appreciated πŸ’™

We do still need 2 more bikes so please keep sharing this post if you can.

Tom Harrison House and The Bridge House Project are looking for donations of 2–3 serviceable road bikes for our beneficiaries to take part in the Bala Triathlon this year while fundraising for Tom Harrison House. Taking part in the event provides an incredible opportunity to build confidence, improve wellbeing, and support recovery through fitness and challenge, while also raising money for a fantastic cause supporting people affected by addiction and poor mental health. If you have a road bike in good working condition that you would be willing to donate, we would be hugely grateful for your support. Please contact 07538 891 732 for more information.

Staff and residents from Tom Harrison House and The Bridge House Project have been working hard at our allotment, planting and growing potatoes, vegetables, and fruit β€” all grown from seed 🌱πŸ₯”πŸ“

The allotment has become a positive space for recovery, wellbeing, learning new skills, and building confidence together. Watching the journey from seed to harvest has been incredibly rewarding for everyone involved.

We are now looking for members of the local community to get involved and support the project. Whether you have gardening experience or simply want to lend a hand, we’d love to hear from you. It’s a great opportunity to connect with others, share skills, and be part of something meaningful πŸ’š

🌟 Volunteer Story: Dave Dolan-Davis 🌟

Since first joining Tom Harrison House in February 2025, Dave has become a much-valued part of our community bringing heart, purpose and plenty of homemade cakes along the way.

Dave came to The Bridge House Project in October 2024 after completing 12 weeks in a treatment centre. Focused on rebuilding his life and strengthening his recovery, he completed the Peer Mentoring Programme and achieved his Level 2 in Counselling Skills. Wanting structure, purpose and a way to give back to the place that supported him, volunteering felt like a natural next step.

As a Kitchen Volunteer for Dave, cooking isn’t just about food it’s about connection. He says the greatest reward is the feeling of purpose he gets from cooking for others and knowing he’s contributing to the positive environment at Tom Harrison House. After taking a short break, returning in 2026 and stepping back into the kitchen with renewed confidence was a powerful moment in his journey.

Volunteering has helped Dave grow in confidence, reconnect with his strengths and feel part of something bigger. It has given him structure, meaning and a positive way to contribute.

Outside of volunteering, Dave is continuing to build his future. With a passion for the construction industry, he has renewed his SMSTS and SEATS qualifications, completed his NEBOSH Construction Certificate and is currently working towards his Level 6 NVQ in Occupational Health & Safety. His goal is to return to the industry in a health & safety role and we have no doubt he will achieve it.

When asked what he would say to someone considering volunteering at Tom Harrison House, Dave says:

β€œIt’s a place where you can grow, contribute, and be part of something that genuinely changes lives. Volunteering here gives you purpose, connection, and the chance to give back to a community that supports you.”

Dave, we are incredibly proud of you. Thank you for your commitment, your generosity, and for everything you bring to Tom Harrison House. πŸ’™
