We are so proud and pleased to have been shortlisted along with our partners Millson Group for a RICS award for the St. William’s project in Ince, Wigan. This was not only for outstanding design, but an acknowledgment of our unique sweat equity model and how it benefits the community. The Community Benefit category. With grateful thanks to all involved.

🏠 Last week, our long-term supporters and material donators, Wienerberger - the world’s largest provider of bricks & clay blocks - invited HPBC and representatives from Wigan Council, to visit Liverpool John Moores University to show us around the living laboratory ‘exemplar houses’ project they’re working on.

CEO Liza Parry, and trustees Rev’d Dr Shannon Ledbetter and Dr Bill Atherton attended on behalf of Housing People, Building Communities.

It was fascinating to see the test houses, built to 1920s, 1970s and 2010 standards, which have been retrofitted by wienerberger UK with energy efficiency solutions.

Our plans with Wigan Council to provide more affordable housing developments through our unique sweat equity model, are progressing well, and we’re excited to have Wienerberger on board to provide their support and expertise in making the homes as energy efficient as possible to reduce household bills ♻️

This week, Housing People, Building Communities’ Trustees visited The University of Salford to explore future collaborations for our developments – and we were also treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Energy House! 🏠⚡️

It’s the only full-scale brick-built test house in a controlled chamber in the world – where researchers can whip up rainstorms (200mm/hr), freeze it to -12°C, or crank it up to +30°C.

For over a decade, the Victorian terrace has been helping test boilers, heat pumps, insulation and smart home tech - all in the name of energy efficiency and innovation.

Fascinating stuff - and we’re excited to be collaborating on upcoming housing projects 🙌

🎥 A huge thank you to BBC’s The One Show for shining a light on Housing People, Building Communities!

The film shared the voices of our amazing home partners who’ve recently moved into their new homes at St William’s in Wigan – homes they’ve helped to build through our unique sweat equity model with support from Prima Group.

By giving their time and skills, our home partners don’t just earn their mortgage deposit – they build affordable homes, create stability, and open up brighter futures for their families.

Our CEO, Liza Parry, also featured in the piece, highlighting how life-changing this model truly is. When people come together, communities thrive 🏡💚

A special thank you to Wigan Council for their ongoing support – we couldn’t do it without you 🙏
