Milap is Britain’s leading Indian arts development trust, producing world class performances, education and artist development opportunities across the UK. We are a British Art Organisation specialising in Indian Arts with a strong track record of creating and delivering ground breaking artistic projects nationally. Milap’s aim is to bringing

people together by providing audiences, aspiring artists and teachers with memorable and inspirational experiences of Indian arts through a dynamic programme of performances, tours, commissions, festivals and innovative educational projects. In the exciting and challenging task of building and strengthening today’s multicultural Britain, our committed endeavour is to unite the hearts and minds of all communities through an exhilarating celebration of arts and culture. In other words, our aim is “to Unite Hearts through Arts,” by giving our audiences memorable, inspirational experiences in Indian Arts through a year round programme of performances, tours, commissions, festivals and innovative educational projects which create and provide sustained career development opportunities for artists learning and practising different genres of Indian Arts. In recent years our educational projects have multiplied considerably, and our aim has been to inter-connect all our projects so that the maximum possible impact is made to the lives of our audiences and participants. In recent years, the Trust has created international partnerships and projects to further strengthen and widen our work, resulting in some exciting cross-cultural collaborations. Our principal work includes the three city Indian Music concert series, Samyo, the National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music, Tarang, the National Indian Music Ensemble, as well as career development opportunities for young music and dance practitioners of Britain. In 2016 we have embarked upon the creating as new National Choir for Indian Music in England. We deliver a very popular ArtsSchool at Liverpool Hope University, delivering excellent teaching courses in Indian Music and Dance. In the exciting and challenging task of building and strengthening today’s multicultural Britain, our committed endeavour is to try and unite the hearts and minds of all our communities through an exhilarating celebration of arts and culture.

Featuring weekly classes of Indian performing arts allowing students to work closely with experienced teachers.

A term-time education programme based in Liverpool, Arts School offers students the unique and priceless opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge from the world’s leading Indian music and dance stars, including exclusive masterclasses with many of its featured concert performers.

Supported learning from experienced tutors and industry professionals ensures audiences, aspiring artists and inquisitive students all have access to memorable and inspirational experiences of Indian Arts.

Tarang is an innovative Indian music collective bringing together the UK’s most exceptional young professionals. Far from a standard ensemble, Tarang is defined by its contemporary interpretations of Indian classical music, reflecting the global influences and diverse cultural environments experienced by this generation of British-born Indian musicians.

Produced by Milap and featuring bespoke arrangements by Girishh Gopalakrishnan, the repertoire for this lunchtime concert bridges the gap between classical rigour and modern experimentation.

This lunchtime concert features bold, innovative repertoire, from the intricate structures of and music to global contemporary influences. Highlighting a world premiere by tabla maestro Kousic Sen and bespoke arrangements of works by Hariharan and Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh, Tarang delivers a fresh, sophisticated, and entirely unique sonic identity.

This performance is a rare opportunity to hear Indian music reimagined for a modern, global stage - fresh, distinctive, and technically brilliant.

This Autumn, we're excited to announce Sandip Chatterjee with Kousic Sen, performing at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room on Friday 30th October, 7:30pm.

Discover the soulful sounds of Indian classical music in the intimate setting of the Music Room. At the heart of the evening is the santoor—a magnificent, hundred-stringed hammered dulcimer played with breathtaking dexterity by Sandip Chatterjee, a recipient of the President of India Award. Its rippling, bell-like tones fill the space, offering a genuine sense of calm and reflection.

Sandip is joined by Milap’s Artist in Residence and master of the tabla, Kousic Sen. Kousic’s energetic and spontaneous rhythmic mastery adds a vibrant pulse that perfectly balances the delicate melodies of the santoor. Together, the musicians create a brilliant musical dialogue that moves from quiet reflection to thrilling, high-energy crescendos. Known for her incredible emotional depth and staggering dexterity, Roopa’s music is a soulful journey that spans traditional Indian classical to contemporary collaborations.

For this special performance, Roopa is joined by the world-renowned tabla maestro, Kousic Sen . Their musical partnership is a long-standing one; in 2011, Milap produced Roopa’s debut album, Khoj, which featured Kousic’s masterly accompaniment—an early milestone in a collaborative relationship that continues to flourish on stages worldwide.

An evening of creative exploration and musical collaborations from a new generation of artists working between traditions, cultures and sound-worlds. Bringing together musicians from Samyo, the UK’s National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music, and Tarang, the UK’s Indian Music Collective.

We also want to thank the ensembles for all their amazing hard work, passion and dedication to the showcase ✨️
