OUR VISION

Milap is Britain’s leading Indian arts development trust, producing world class performances, education and artist development opportunities across the UK. We are a British Art Organisation specialising in Indian Arts with a strong track record of creating and delivering ground breaking artistic projects nationally. Milap’s aim is to bringing

people together by providing audiences, aspiring artists and teachers with memorable and inspirational experiences of Indian arts through a dynamic programme of performances, tours, commissions, festivals and innovative educational projects. In the exciting and challenging task of building and strengthening today’s multicultural Britain, our committed endeavour is to unite the hearts and minds of all communities through an exhilarating celebration of arts and culture. In other words, our aim is “to Unite Hearts through Arts,” by giving our audiences memorable, inspirational experiences in Indian Arts through a year round programme of performances, tours, commissions, festivals and innovative educational projects which create and provide sustained career development opportunities for artists learning and practising different genres of Indian Arts. In recent years our educational projects have multiplied considerably, and our aim has been to inter-connect all our projects so that the maximum possible impact is made to the lives of our audiences and participants. In recent years, the Trust has created international partnerships and projects to further strengthen and widen our work, resulting in some exciting cross-cultural collaborations. Our principal work includes the three city Indian Music concert series, Samyo, the National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music, Tarang, the National Indian Music Ensemble, as well as career development opportunities for young music and dance practitioners of Britain. In 2016 we have embarked upon the creating as new National Choir for Indian Music in England. We deliver a very popular ArtsSchool at Liverpool Hope University, delivering excellent teaching courses in Indian Music and Dance. In the exciting and challenging task of building and strengthening today’s multicultural Britain, our committed endeavour is to try and unite the hearts and minds of all our communities through an exhilarating celebration of arts and culture.

3 weeks to go until the mesmerising Indian vocalist and composer comes to Liverpool’s Philharmonic Music Room!🎙️

Presenting ‘Songs of the Luminous Heart’ on 26th June, Ranjana presents a rich, genre-defying performance blending Indian vocal forms (thumri and bhajan) with European classical and folk traditions!

Accompanied by three other incredible musicians - Céline Saout on harp, Harkiret Singh Bahra on tabla and Kirpal Singh Panesar on esraj ✨

This special performance will be an incredible display of rare instruments coming together seamlessly for a intimate exploration of multiple genres 🎶

Combining both soulful musicality and a complex rhythm, Kaviraj Singh brings a fresh blend of modern British culture and classical Indian tradition to his music. Raised in a musical family, he continues to take the legacy further by showcasing the beauty and intricacy of the Santoor; one of India’s most treasured stringed instruments.

Kousic Sen, Milap’s artist-in-residence is a tabla player well known for his rhythmic mastery. Born into a musical family, Kousic is the proud representative of the Banaras Gharana and is one of the foremost tabla players of his generation.

Take a perfect break from your busy day and relax to the soothing sounds of the one hundred stringed Indian Santoor along with the tabla, performed by Kaviraj Singh and Kousic Sen.

Stalls Cafe Bar is open for all Live at Lunchtime concerts, serving soup, sandwiches and a selection of hot meals from 11.00am til 2.30pm.

Drawing on the emotive vocal forms of thumri and bhajan, alongside the mystical writings of Mirabai and Hildegard of Bingen, Indian vocalist Ranjana Ghatak explores shared spiritual and musical threads across cultures. She is joined by Céline Saout (harp), Kirpal Singh Panesar (esraj) and Harkiret Singh Bahra (tabla), whose sensitive interplay weaves classical, semi-classical and original compositions with improvisation and intricate rhythm.

ARTS SCHOOL is back! Our term-time education programme based in Liverpool!

We're currently offering tabla classes with acclaimed player Kousic Sen, one of the foremost tabla players of his generation, recognised for his dynamic solo and collaborative work that’s seen him perform in some of the world’s most prestigious venues alongside leading musicians.

And dance classes with Dr. Supritha Aithal, an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer with a deep-rooted passion for the art form, having started her training at the age of five. With a PhD in Dance Movement Psychotherapy and an MFA in Bharatanatyam, her academic credentials are also complemented by a wealth of teaching experience from beginners to advanced students.
