Refugee Women Connect

Refugee Women Connect Working with service users & policy makers to facilitate refugee women's access to social justice.

We provide support for asylum seeker and refugee women including perinatal women and their babies, victims of sexual violence, trafficking, domestic slavery and human rights abuses. We do this by providing three weekly drop-in groups and one to one casework for family support, health and well being and perinatal support. Our casework project is available for women to receive support on a variety o

f issues such as with their asylum claim, housing problems, accessing health services, mental healthcare provision, etc. Our drop-in project aims to provide a safe and supportive space for women and their children, where they can access peer support and develop social contacts and friendship. We provide a warm, nutritious meal enjoyed in the company of other women and their children. Women can access information and support such as emotional support, perinatal support, clothes and toys for babies, children and women, structured play and learning activities for the children, peer support and the opportunity to develop social contacts, English classes and outreach services from other specialist services that are part of our network.

At Refugee Women Connect, we work with women who have shown immense courage in seeking safety and rebuilding their lives in the UK. Many have experienced significant trauma and continue to face challenges long after they arrive. Our trauma-informed mental health services are tailored to each woman's needs, providing one-to-one support, phone check-ins, and wellbeing activities to help them recover from the trauma they have experienced.

At a time when the funding environment is increasingly challenging for small charities, we need your support more than ever.

This Refugee Week, help us celebrate the courage, resilience, and determination of refugee women by making a one-off donation or becoming a monthly donor.

Your support will help us continue providing vital services for women who have made extraordinary journeys to rebuild their lives in the North West. Together, we can ensure that these courageous women receive the support, community, and opportunities they need to thrive.

This year's Refugee Week theme is 'Courage'. All week we will be celebrating the incredible women in the Refugee Women Connect community and the vital work RWC does in supporting women refugees, asylum seekers and survivors of human trafficking in the North West.

As part of an activity at our art table, we invited women to share their thoughts and experiences of courage.

Their responses reflected a wide range of powerful stories from finding the strength to leave abusive relationships, to making the brave decision to leave their home countries and start a new life here.

Today is the start of Refugee Week, the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.

Refugee Week is a remarkable opportunity for us to come together as a community, celebrate the courage, strength and resilience of refugees and highlight their invaluable contributions to our society.

It is not only a time to celebrate refugees but also to challenge misconceptions and build bridges in our communities.

Today, we are celebrating our Play Assistant volunteers, who spend time playing with children at our drop-in sessions, allowing mums to take part in activities and access support. Many of the children live in small or temporary accommodation and arrive at our sessions full of energy.

Thanks to our Play Assistant volunteers, mums can engage in activities, connect with others, and enjoy valuable time to focus on their mental health and wellbeing.

We've been on such an incredible journey with the development of our charity fashion show and we couldn't have done it without the dedication of our wonderful volunteer team.

We had nearly 100 volunteers ranging from hosts, designers, models, musicians, Djs, backstage crew, dressers, runners, make up artists, hair stylists, photographers & fundraisers all giving their time to make the show a HUGE success!

In such a challenging funding environment, events like this have not only raised much needed funds, but shown us the overwhelming support for the work that we do and for refugee women in our community. Thank you so much to every single person that has been involved in Strike A Pose 1 & 2!
