🏔️GOLD DofE EXPEDITION 2026⛺️

From 6th–10th August 2026, 2348 (Maghull) Squadron took to the hills of Snowdonia for a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award qualifying expedition.

This year, we were joined by cadets from 1026 (Ormskirk) and 969 (St Helens) Squadrons allowing them to complete their Gold DofE expedition. 🤝

After arriving on Thursday, the team spent the evening preparing for the days ahead, finalising routes, checking kit and making sure everything was ready before an early start the following morning. 🗺️🥾

Over the next four days, the cadets navigated their way through the challenging terrain of Snowdonia, carrying everything they needed with them and remaining completely self-sufficient throughout.⛺️🎒

The Welsh weather provided a typical mix, with periods of sunshine alongside cloud and showers, making good navigation, preparation and teamwork even more important. ☀️🌦️

Despite the challenges, the team continued to make strong progress, supporting one another and keeping morale high throughout the expedition. By the final day, the finish was firmly in sight, and the cadets completed their routes with a real sense of achievement. 🏔️👏

A huge congratulations to all of the cadets for successfully completing their Gold DofE qualifying expedition!🤩🙌

🎉 Corporal Promotions 🎉

Congratulations to Cpl Perez and Cpl Tyson, who were promoted to the rank of Corporal on Friday!

Following their successful completion of the recent NCO course, both cadets have demonstrated the commitment, leadership, and professionalism expected of a Non-Commissioned Officer. Their hard work and dedication have earned them this well-deserved promotion.

The promotions were presented by Plt Off Taylor on behalf of the Officer Commanding.

Congratulations to you both on reaching this milestone, we look forward to seeing you thrive in your new roles and support the next generation of cadets.

Please join us in wishing Cpl Perez and Cpl Tyson every success as they begin their journey as NCOs! 👏

congratulations

🫡Drill Instructor Course Success 🫡

Last month, Flight Sergeant Taylor returned to Woodvale to complete the North Region Drill Instructor Course.

The course challenges candidates through both practical and written assessments, testing their knowledge of RAF Air Cadets drill and their ability to confidently instruct others. 📚

Congratulations to FS Taylor on successfully passing the course. A great achievement, we look forward to seeing you on the drill square! 👏👀

🏕🥾 DofE Silver Qualifying & Gold Practice Weekend 🥾🏕

Last weekend, 2348 (Maghull) Squadron headed to Yorkshire as our Silver groups completed their qualifying expeditions, while our Gold group took on their practice expedition as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award! 🌄

After months of training and dedication towards their Skill, Physical, and Volunteering sections, our cadets put all of their expedition training into action.

The Silver groups successfully completed their 3-day, 2-night qualifying expedition, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience, and navigation skills across the varied Yorkshire countryside.

Meanwhile, the Gold group, joined by cadets from 1026 and 969 Sqn, undertook their 3-day, 2-night practice expedition, gaining valuable experience and building confidence ahead of their qualifying expedition later this year. ⛺️

All of our cadets showed fantastic determination and perseverance throughout the weekend – a brilliant effort from everyone involved! 💪

Well done to all the cadets and staff who made the weekend a success. 👏🏻

🚵‍♂️🧗‍♀️ WATEX 2026 🗺🚣‍♀️

Cadets from 2348 (Maghull) Squadron recently represented the unit at the annual Wing Adventure Training Exercise (WATEX) Competition, delivering a stellar performance to finish 3rd place overall.💪🥉

Featuring a updated non-residential structure this year, the event still delivered a stern test of character, stamina, and practical skill. The team was evaluated across four key adventure disciplines:

🧗‍♂️ Climbing: Focus on rope technique, knot precision, and belay teamwork.

🚣‍♀️Kayaking: Evaluated on paddling technique, speed, and vessel balance.

🚵‍♂️Mountain Biking: Pushing confidence, trail safety, and route precision.

🗺Navigation: Rigorous kit inspections, a challenging day walk with questions to test their knowledge along the way.

This podium finish is a fantastic achievement and a direct result of the cadets’ consistent effort and enthusiasm during pre-competition training.
Congratulations and well done team! 👏

🛶🌊 Making Waves at Crosby Marina 🌊🛶

Over the past month, cadets from 2348 (Maghull) Squadron went to Crosby Marina for some epic evenings of kayaking, teamwork, and skill-building!

Under the guidance of their amazing instructors, the cadets levelled up their paddling techniques, built on their confidence on the water, and put their teamwork to the test with some games and challenges. 💪

These sessions are the perfect way for our cadets to push their limits, master new skills, and swap the classroom for the sunshine! 🌞 Leaving the marina with bigger smiles and newfound confidence, successful sessions all round! 😁

⚾️IS Rounders Competition | Wings for Mark🪽

On Sunday, cadets from 2348 (Maghull) Squadron took part in the Merseyside Wing Rounders Competition, putting in a fantastic performance throughout the day and securing an impressive 3rd place! 🥉👏🏻

Despite the extreme heat, our cadets showed incredible resilience, teamwork and determination throughout the competition. ☀️🔥

A huge well done to everyone who took part and represented the Squadron so brilliantly. 💪

The day was also made extra special by the Wings for Mark fundraiser, held in memory of Sqn Ldr Mark Long and in support of the Mark Long Trust. 💙

Cadets, staff, volunteers and supporters came together to celebrate aviation, remember Sqn Ldr Mark Long and raise funds to help disabled people experience the freedom of flight. ✈️🌤️

Throughout the day, there was a commemorative signing banner, a landing challenge and opportunities to learn more about the fantastic work of the Mark Long Trust.

A fantastic day of sport, remembrance and fundraising. Well done to everyone involved! 👏🏻⚾️

Keep an eye on our page over the coming weeks, as we’ll be sharing just how much was raised through Wings for Mark. Thank you to everyone who supported this incredible cause. 💙

⏳JUST TWO DAYS TO GO!⏳

This Sunday, Wings for Mark takes to the field at the Merseyside Wing Rounders Competition!

Over the last few weeks we’ve shared the story behind our logo, introduced the inspiration behind the event and explained why we’re proud to support the Mark Long Trust.

Now it’s almost time.

Cadets, staff, volunteers and supporters will come together to celebrate aviation, remember an inspirational RAF pilot and raise funds to help disabled people experience the freedom of flight.

Throughout the day we’ll have our commemorative signing banner, fundraising activities and plenty of opportunities to learn more about the fantastic work of the Mark Long Trust.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the project so far. Your encouragement has meant a great deal to our cadets, particularly to Cpl Jessica Byrne, whose vision and enthusiasm have brought Wings for Mark to life.

We’ll be sharing plenty of updates throughout the day, so keep an eye on our social media.

Let’s make this a day to remember.

🧗‍♀️ Indoor Climbing at Awesome Walls 🧗‍♂️

Throughout the year, cadets from 2348 (Maghull) Squadron have been pushing their limits and scaling new heights at Awesome Walls!

Thanks to the fantastic instructors at Awesome Walls, we shook things up this year. While some cadets climbed purely for the fun of it, a dedicated group has been working hard toward their National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) qualification! 🎖️

The NICAS syllabus helps cadets build essential skills like:
🪢 Advanced knot-tying
🧗‍♂️ Safe belaying & communication
🧠 Technical climbing ability

They’ve even been keeping logbooks to track their progress and prove their skills in action. 💪

Our cadets asked for the opportunity to earn this award, showing their incredible drive for Adventure Training - so we made it happen!

Huge well done to all cadets who attend these session 👏
