✈️🤩 GLIDING! 🤩✈️

Recently, four cadets from 2348 (Maghull) Squadron headed to RAF Woodvale for an exciting day of gliding! 🛩️

Once again, the weather was on our side, giving every cadet the opportunity to take to the skies and enjoy an uninterrupted flight under clear skies. 🌤️✈️

Following a comprehensive pre-flight safety briefing, the cadets were ready to experience the thrill of gliding first-hand! From discovering the principles of flight to taking in the stunning views from above, it was a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and create memories that will last a lifetime. 🤩

A brilliant day in the air and an unforgettable experience for everyone involved!

❤️ SKILLS THAT CAN SAVE LIVES 🩹

One of the most important things our cadets gain through the Air Cadets is something they can carry with them for life: life-saving skills.

Our mandatory first aid training gives cadets the knowledge and confidence to respond when something goes wrong, whether that’s on squadron, at camp or in everyday life.

It’s not just about passing a course or earning a qualification. It’s about being ready to step up when someone needs help.

Just ask FS Dumbell! 👏

After a busy parade night, FS Dumbell stopped at a local fast-food restaurant drive-thru. While placing his order, he noticed a member of staff was slurring their words before suddenly fainting.

Without hesitation, FS Dumbell climbed through the tight service window and put his first aid training into action.

Thankfully, the staff member recovered well. And yes, after all that excitement, the Flight Sergeant still got his food! 🍔

Steve is a fantastic example of how the skills, confidence and experiences gained through the Air Cadets can stay with you long after your cadet days and even lead to an incredible career helping others.

Knowing the signs, having the knowledge and having the confidence to act can make all the difference.

That’s why first aid matters. And that’s why we’re so proud to teach it.

🚀 NATIONAL CADETS WEEK 2026! 🚀

This week we’re celebrating National Cadets Week and everything that makes being part of the Air Cadets so special. 💙

From the amazing opportunities our cadets get to the incredible volunteers who make it all happen - there’s plenty to celebrate!

🚁Police Helicopter Visit🚁

Recently, four cadets from 2348 (Maghull) Sqn were invited to join cadets from 611 (Woodvale) Sqn for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of a police helicopter, organised by their very own Fg Off Lloyd, who serves as a crew member in his civilian career.

Fg Off Lloyd delivered a detailed and captivating talk on the aircraft’s technology, the life-saving equipment carried on board, and the vital roles each crew member plays during flight operations. He demonstrated the aircraft’s advanced cameras and mapping systems, showing how different thermal and optical lenses are used depending on lighting and target distance.

Importantly, Fg Off Lloyd shared how his time in the Air Cadets, particularly mastering skills like map reading, helped pave the way for his career.

The visit concluded with a hands-on experience as cadets climbed inside the cockpit to see the tech in action.

A huge thank you to Fg Off Lloyd and the team for offering our cadets a fantastic insight into an exciting career path!

📣Sergeant Promotion📣

On Friday, our Commanding Officer was delighted to promote Cpl Sutton to the rank of Sergeant. 👏

Taking on the role of an SNCO marks an important step in his cadet career, bringing new responsibilities and opportunities to lead and support others within the squadron.

We have no doubt that Sgt Sutton will take on this new challenge with confidence, continuing to be a great example to the NCO team. 💪

❤️Irene Hallett Memorial❤️

On Friday evening, 2348 (Maghull) Squadron came together to honour the life and lasting legacy of Mrs Irene Hallett, a much-loved member of our Civilian Committee and our Squadron family.

The evening began with a formal parade, proudly reviewed by Irene’s son, Wing Commander Neil Hallett, Station Commander of RAF Digby. 🫡

Following the parade, cadets, parents, former cadets, friends of Irene and members of the Hallett family gathered at Squadron Headquarters for the unveiling of our Memorial Garden and benches, dedicated in Irene’s memory. 🪽🌹

Following the unveiling, guests had the opportunity to view the garden while listening to our Squadron Band, before enjoying sausage rolls and cakes.

For almost 30 years, Irene was at the heart of 2348. Whether she was in the tuck shop looking after cadets, tending the roses and flower beds, or making sure a visitor had a cup of tea before they’d even properly introduced themselves, she made everyone feel welcome.

Her kindness, generosity and unwavering commitment touched generations of cadets, staff and families, and her legacy will continue to inspire all who pass through our gates.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to remember and celebrate a remarkable lady who gave so much to our Squadron.

🇬🇧 BATTLE OF BRITAIN PARADE 2026 🇬🇧

On Sunday, cadets from 2348 (Maghull) Squadron travelled to Chester to join fellow Squadrons from across Merseyside Wing for this year’s annual Battle of Britain Parade.

The day began with a parade through Chester city centre, leading to a commemorative service at Chester Cathedral, where cadets and staff gathered to honour and remember all those who served in the RAF during the Battle of Britain.

Following the service, cadets re-formed for the march past, saluting dignitaries before attending a reception at Chester Town Hall, kindly hosted by the Lady Mayoress.

A proud day of remembrance, respect, and representing 2348 alongside the wider RAF Air Cadet family.

🏥⭐Gold First Aid Course⭐🏥

Recently, FS Dumbell attended a Gold First Aid Course, spending the week developing advanced first aid knowledge and practical skills through a range of realistic scenarios and assessments.

The course challenged participants to build confidence in responding to incidents, work effectively under pressure and strengthen the skills needed to provide lifesaving first aid in a variety of situations.

A huge congratulations to FS Dumbell on successfully completing the course and achieving his Gold First Aid qualification – a fantastic achievement.

🏹🎯 Parade Night Archery 🎯🏹

Recently, our cadets had the opportunity to spend a parade night taking part in an exciting archery session.

From learning the fundamentals of technique and safety to putting their skills into practice on the range, it was a fantastic evening of challenge, concentration and plenty of encouragement from fellow cadets and staff.

Whether it was hitting the target for the first time or improving with every round, everyone showed great determination, confidence and teamwork throughout the session.

A brilliant parade night spent developing new skills, supporting one another and, of course, enjoying some friendly competition. We look forward to seeing these skills continue to grow on future activities.
