As we mark National Volunteers’ Week, we would like to thank all of the volunteers who give their time, energy and expertise to support 2348 (Maghull) Squadron.

🛶🌊 Kayaking🌊🛶

Last week, cadets from 2348 (Maghull) Squadron headed to Crosby Marina for an evening of kayaking and teamwork.

Cadets had the opportunity to improve their paddling techniques, grow in confidence on the water and support each other throughout the session. 💪🛶 The evening ended in the best way possible, with the squadron’s now traditional jump into the marina! 🌊

Sessions like these are a fantastic way for cadets to push themselves, learn new skills and enjoy time outside the lecture room environment. Safe to say there were plenty of smiles all round! 😄

Could more water-based activities be on the horizon for the squadron? Keep watching this space… 👀

As the weather gets warmer and schools break up for half term, many young people will naturally head outdoors with friends to enjoy the sunshine.

But following a recent series of tragic deaths linked to open water swimming across the UK, we want to make one thing very clear...

Please stay out of reservoirs, lakes, quarries, canals and other open water.

What looks calm and inviting on the surface can be incredibly dangerous underneath. Cold water shock, hidden currents, deep mud, debris and sudden drops in temperature can overwhelm even strong swimmers within seconds.

If your friends invite you to a reservoir, go and enjoy the day. Spend time together. Walk, talk, laugh, make memories.

But please do not go into the water.

No photograph, dare, trend or moment of excitement is worth risking your life for.

To our cadets, families, staff and wider community:

Please look after yourselves and each other this summer. Have fun, stay safe, and make smart decisions. Someone is always waiting for you to come home.

🌟 Gold DofE Celebrations 🌟

This week, CI Kilbane, CI Kirkwood and FS McMullen had the incredible opportunity to attend Buckingham Palace to celebrate achieving their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award! 🤩

Earning a Gold DofE Award is a huge achievement and requires dedication, resilience, and commitment. To complete the award, participants must undertake:
⭐ Volunteering
⭐ Physical and skills sections
⭐ A 3 day / 3 night practice expedition
⭐ A 4 day / 3 night qualifying expedition
⭐ A 5 day / 4 night residential experience away from home 🏕️

After successfully completing every section, they were invited by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to attend the Gold Award Celebration at Buckingham Palace!

Accompanying them for the day was the Squadron DofE Officer, Plt Off Taylor, and it was also great to see the Commandant RAFAC again during the celebrations.

The day was filled with sunshine, inspiring stories, and the chance to celebrate alongside fellow Gold Award holders from across the country.

A massive congratulations to you all on this outstanding achievement, you should all be incredibly proud! 👏🌟😆

To every young person sitting their GCSEs and A Levels today… good luck!

You’ve already done the hard part by showing up, putting the work in and getting this far. Take a deep breath, trust yourself and give it your best shot.

Remember: exams measure answers on a page, not your worth, your character or your future potential.

You’ve got this 💙

🏕🥾 DofE Bronze Qualifying & Silver Practice Weekend 🥾🏕

This weekend, 2348 (Maghull) Squadron headed to Darwen as our Bronze groups completed their qualifying expeditions, while our Silver groups took on their practice expedition as part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award! 🌄

After months of training and work towards their Skill, Physical, and Volunteering sections, the cadets finally put their expedition training into action.

The Bronze groups completed a 2-day, 1-night qualifying expedition, showing great teamwork, resilience, and navigation skills across the varied Darwen terrain.

Meanwhile, the Silver groups undertook their 2-day, 2-night practice expedition, building confidence ahead of their qualifying journey later this year!⛺️

Even in the hot conditions, both groups showed real determination throughout, a fantastic effort all round! 💪

Well done to all cadets involved 👏🏻
