Beacon Counselling Trust

Beacon Counselling Trust Specialist mental health and education service for people aged 16+ across the Northwest.

Beacon Counselling Trust (BCT) is a Northwest wide mental health charity (1140011) which specialises in a range of early intervention, education, clinical and mental health programmes.

For over 10 years, BCT have offered free, confidential specialist support across the North West for individuals experiencing harm from their own gambling, or the gambling or someone else. This support is offered

to anyone over the age of 16, and can be delivered face-to-face, online, or over the phone, with no waiting list.

BCT offer a range of advice and guidance, as well as therapeutic interventions through one-to-one or couples sessions, to support those experiencing gambling harms. These interventions are delivered by qualified and experienced therapists and psychological practitioners. BCT also support individuals through a range of long-term recovery programmes, both for the individual who gambled and the affected individuals. This support is delivered through lived-experience led peer support, group support, outdoor walking therapy, community-based interventions, and specialist support to address the practical issues that can occur due to gambling harms.

BCT also offer gambling harms training through the Bet You Can Help course, accredited by RSPH, giving a Level 2 award in Tackling Gambling Harms.

It was a real pleasure for our Paul’s Place Team, service users and the wider group at Beacon Counselling Trust to welcome both Merseyside Lord Lieutenant Peter Oliver MBE and High Sheriff Hazel Snell DL recently.

This was an opportunity for our organisation to learn about the important role that the Merseyside Lieutenancy provides in supporting our communities across Merseyside.

It was also an opportunity for our guests to learn about the support Paul’s Place offers through our Su***de Bereavement Programme and the wider range of programmes offered at Beacon Counselling Trust.

We look forward to a return visit in the coming months.

Big thank you to M & S Foodhall Queens Drive for their kind support for this visit.

Beacon Counselling Trust service users had a great time participating in a wellbeing walk whilst continuing their walking adventure as they make their way around the Wirral peninsular. We had a great turnout, and we were grateful to Gaston Elected Member Sam Gorst who joined us and as ever provides fantastic support to BCT.

Our Paul’s Place Co-founders Agnes and Joe and Community and Engagement Support Lead Andrew were given a very warm welcome by Sophia to The People’s Place, one of Everton Football Club’s community hubs.

It was another very positive meeting where we talked through Paul’s Place’s crucial role in supporting adults bereaved by su***de across Merseyside.

We look forward to seeing how Paul’s Place and Everton in the Community can work together in future.

We are incredibly proud to announce that Beacon Counselling Trust (BCT) has been awarded the Gold Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Award. The Gold Award is the Ministry of Defence highest badge of honour for organisations that go above and beyond to support defence and the Armed Forces community.

This prestigious recognition reflects our long-standing commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community, including veterans, reservists, service leavers, cadet force adult volunteers, military families, and our work through the Armed Forces Greater Support Network (AFGSN).

Receiving the Gold ERS Award is a testament to the values BCT uphold every day creating an inclusive workplace, championing those who have served, and recognising the invaluable skills, experience, and dedication they bring.

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our staff, volunteers, partners, and the organisations we work alongside through AFGSN to strengthen support for the Armed Forces community across our region and beyond.

A special thank you to North West Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (NWRFCA) for their continued support, and to Jan Cox QVRM DL, for her guidance, encouragement, and commitment throughout our ERS journey.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this achievement. We remain committed to building stronger partnerships, creating opportunities, and ensuring members of the Armed Forces community receive the support they deserve.
