Another week, the same concerning trend.
Once again, a number of veterans and former service personnel arrived at The Block seeking support after becoming homeless.
The cases this week included both early service leavers and veterans who have struggled with the transition to civilian life across Merseyside.
Our team is here to help, but the number of veterans presenting in housing crisis this year is becoming increasingly concerning. While every story is different, the underlying issues and challenges faced by many of those seeking support remain strikingly similar.
This week, several veterans visited The Block who were either at risk of homelessness or living in temporary accommodation. Most significantly, four new street-homeless veterans attended The Block Walk-In Centre for assistance. These included a Falklands War veteran, a former Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment soldier who left service early, a Royal Navy veteran, and an Army veteran who had fallen on hard times.
Following comprehensive face 2 face assessments and housing interventions, two of the veterans were moved into The Block’s supported accommodation. Another veteran, together with his dog, was provided with interim accommodation by Liverpool City Council after spending a week in a hotel.
A fourth veteran was placed into emergency hotel accommodation late on Friday afternoon.
Every case requires professional, face 2 face housing support, delivered with care, compassion, and understanding. This work continues daily at The Block’s Head Office, where our team provides practical assistance and wraparound support to veterans in crisis.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Liverpool City Council and Royal British Legion for their support and collaboration in helping to achieve positive outcomes for these veterans throughout the week.
While we are proud to support those who turn to us for help, the growing number of veterans experiencing homelessness and housing instability across Merseyside remains a serious concern that cannot be ignored.
Thank you to everyone who supports our work.

Need more support?
With the right commitment, planning and preparation Transition to civilian life is achieved successfully in the majority of cases. However, there may be individuals who need additional support above and beyond the transition information mentioned here.
In these instances it is important that Service Personnel identify any challenges or issues that they might have to their chain of command at the earliest opportunity.
If these cannot be managed in during the time remaining in Service individuals can be sign-posted to the appropriate support services or referred to Veterans UK (Veterans Welfare Service) which is the MOD organization responsible for Veterans’ well-being.
