Changes have been made to Liverpool City Council's planned cycle along Woolton Road, following a recent consultation event.

Many residents surrounding Childwall C of E Primary School were concerned that the plans would result in even more cars blocking side roads at the start and end of the school day.

The council have reduced the cycle lane so that it ends at the Taggart Avenue/ Cromptons Lane junction.

“Lollipop” crossing patrol wardens have been missing from Booker Avenue for the past 8 months.

It can be difficult to find people willing to fill these roles for a few hours a day, but shockingly Liverpool City Council still hasn’t advertised these jobs.

Since January Allerton councillor Andrew Makinson has been pressing the council to open these two vacancies, and has demanded an investigation into why there has been a recruitment freeze.

Liverpool City Council is now promising that the posts will be advertised in the next few weeks, but it now seems unlikely we will have crossing wardens back before the new school year in September.

As soon as these vacancies are live, we will advertise them here for anyone who might be interested. It is also hoped to have a recruitment event at the school.

Calderstones councillor Liz Makinson went out on patrol around Allerton Road with parking wardens on Saturday morning to highlight the areas most in need of enforcement.

Over a dozen tickets were issued to cars parked in bus stops, across crossing points, and on double yellow lines around junctions. Liz also listened to ideas from the wardens on changes that will help them do their job more effectively.

Liz will press for chevron markings to be added to many of the existing double yellow lines, as this will permit wardens to issue instant tickets instead of being forced to wait 3 minutes for a driver to return and move their vehicle.

And Liz is asking for double yellow lines to be installed in the dual carriageway so that tickets can be issued to vehicles that park on the central reservation.

From next year the council is due to get additional powers to tackle pavement parking. This power will need to used sensitively in narrow residential streets, but we are pressing the council to take tough action on selfish and dangerous pavement parking.

Yesterday and today Mossley Hill’s councillor Rob McAllister-Bell & Allerton’s Andrew Makinson were out on patrol on Rose Lane with the police and council parking wardens.

The council’s parking team have now agreed to increase patrols to daily along Rose Lane to deal with the ongoing parking problems.

Andrew requested that they target issues around the junction of Pitville Avenue and around the pedestrian crossing where drivers are now regularly parking and threatening pedestrians on the pavement.

Rob particularly highlighted problems around Avonmore Avenue and Templemore Avenue. These roads will now be included in the daily patrols by wardens.

Rob and Andrew also highlighted a number of parts of the lane where poor or missing road marking are currently preventing parking wardens from issuing tickets. These will now be taken up with the council to be repainted.

Rob, Andrew and Richard Kemp will keep up the pressure on the council and police to keep targeting the Rose Lane area with enforcement.
