RAINBOWS BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GREAT BRITAIN is a well respected national charity having a proven, positive impact on the lives of children, young people and adults grieving a significant and often devastating loss in their lives. The work of Rainbows is tried, tested, researched, monitored and evaluated. We know the impact of our work is long-lasting and has a tangible impact on people's lives. Our
vision is quite simply for every child and young person in every school in Great Britain, grieving a significant and often devastating loss in their lives, to be understood and supported appropriately. BACKGROUND
The roots of Rainbows Bereavement Support GB date back to Chicago in 1983 when Suzy Yehl Marta, a divorced mother with three young children, founded the Rainbows programme following her own divorce to address the apparent absence of any organised support groups for grieving children. Her intention was to ensure that other families would not suffer as her family did through the trauma of her own divorce. Fully adapted programmes and training covering all aspects of bereavement and loss were developed in Great Britain and introduced in 1992. As a result of the impact of our training and our revised and up dated programmes, over 100,000 children and young people now have access to support in over 1200 schools. WHAT WE DO
Rainbows Bereavement Support GB offers high quality training in bereavement and loss, and supports communities in reviewing or developing their own bereavement policy and procedures. Through locally based Registered Directors, the charity offers training in the use of Rainbows age related peer support programmes which help foster emotional healing among children, young people and adults. All training is interactive and a variety of teaching methods are used to ensure that participants develop appropriate skills and strategies to enable them to facilitate peer groups working through the Rainbows programmes. On-going support for this emotionally demanding but most rewarding work is provided to affirm and advise the trained facilitators and co-ordinators that run the programmes. High quality training for all members of staff and further training for facilitators and co-ordinators to suit the specific needs of your school are delivered at your site. The cost of this training, equivalent to at least a day and a half, together with all resources required to operate the Rainbows age related programmes with on-going support and advice is around £650. Rainbows Bereavement Support GB programmes:
SunBeams: Foundation Stages and lower Key Stage One
Rainbows: Year 2 and Key Stage Two
