Merseyside Live Steam & Model Engineers

Merseyside Live Steam & Model Engineers Open to the public for rides on Sunday afternoons 1400-1600 and on Tuesday's for maintenance. The Rides are free, although donations are gratefully accepted.

We are a small model engineering club whose main aim is to put smiles on the faces of Liverpool children sometime around or after 2pm on a Sunday. We do this with the help of our miniature railway, which is at the northern end of Calderstones Park in Liverpool. MLS&ME also meets for maintenance and other social activities on Wednesday afternoons at 2pm in the clubhouse, which is in the middle of o

ur 600 foot track. Actually, there are two tracks, one at ground level (dual 5" and 7¼" gauge) and the other elevated (dual 3½" and 5" gauge). The ground level track is a simple circular loop, whilst the elevated track has been extended into a shape something more like a russian doll! New members of all ages are always welcome; just come along on a Sunday or Tuesday.

This week is National Volunteers Week so a big shout-out to our own Club Members!

Merseyside Live Steam and Model Engineers was originally founded back in 1943, and all the club does and has achieved in the intervening 83 years wouldn't have been possible without the dedication of generations of Volunteers! Our railway, site and gardens at Calderstones Park are a testament to what volunteers can achieve in their local community.

We always welcome new Members too, so if you'd like to join and get involved as a Volunteer in any of the various roles we undertake, please get in touch!

Blue loco and blue skies! The Class 24 and Class 47 provided motive power for rides today. Exterior painting of our gardening store took place alongside planting lots of new flowers while the weather was nice! Blooming gardens also provides a beautiful backdrop for running trains on the Garden Railway.

Meanwhile indoors, mechanical attention is being given to the clubs Pannier Tank "Speedy", (worn axleboxes) and to the green 08 (worn gears)

We have great many plans to proceed with this year, and with the weather milder and the days getting longer, we have more opportunity to tackle the various site improvements we have in mind. The majority of such work is undertaken during our Tuesday work parties. Do you have free time midweek? Are you looking for a new hobby, to learn new skills or share some of your own with our club? We are always pleased to welcome new members! Feel free to get in touch!

A busy couple of days! Sunday we ran our usual Sunday afternoon trains, but also had a good turn out of members Locos and Stock running on the Garden Railway.

Today, we've completed laying new flags to our work/loading area, which will make it much easier to get our 5" gauge trains on and off the track. A long dead tree stump has been removed, and more materials brought on site- mostly a quantity of steel angle so we can start on the next stage of our ongoing track repairs/replacement. Gardening work is also ongoing, with weeding, dead-heading and watering the greenhouse seedlings which will be planted outside in the beds for summer.

We've had a superb Easter Sunday! Our members were up early to set-up, and despite the wind, hail and rain courtesy of Storm Dave, we opened at 11am and had a busy event where the sun shone, visitors came by the score and everybody had a great time!

Our raffle was popular, and the lucky winners have been drawn!

Over 120 children took part in our Easter Egg Hunt, 350 passengers rode on our trains, of which we had a variety in operation to showcase the locomotives that belong to the Club, and to some of our Members.

Likewise, plenty of trains of many varieties operated and entertained on the Garden Railway.

Last but not least, many happy visitors sampled our fine range of cakes along with drinks at our refreshment stand!

Many thanks to those who attended, and a big round of applause to our Volunteer Club Members who make these events possible!

We'll let our followers know of future events on here!
