For years, the Great North Run was a family tradition for Tania and her uncle, Sean.
Sean started running in his 40s to raise money for charity and went on to represent England Athletics. In 2024, aged 58, he completed the Great North Run in an incredible 1 hour 19 minutes! π³
In February 2025, Sean was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. He sadly died later that year, but throughout his illness, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation supported Sean.
This year, Tania returned to the Great North Run alongside her cousin Joe, Seanβs son, to run in Seanβs memory and raise money for Roy Castle. π
Together, theyβve raised over Β£2,000, with Tania raising more than Β£650 and Joe an amazing Β£1,400+!
Tania described the weekend as emotional, but full of memories, family, kindness and support.
Thank you, Tania and Joe, for carrying Seanβs memory with you and helping make a difference for others affected by lung cancer.
