🪴🪴CU in the Jungle?...Oh no, it's just the OUTPLANTCANCER team doing a fabulous job at East Preston Festival!🪴🪴

It was unfortunately another rainy year for the East Preston festival, which meant once again moving the stall indoors - but it didn't dampen spirits, and the team had a brilliant day, making almost £1000 for Cancer United!

Well done team - and a huge thank you to everyone who helped with the organisation and set up, and to everyone who came along and supported!

💛💜This week is Volunteer's Week!💛💜

We couldn't let the week pass by without paying tribute to all of the AMAZING people who help and volunteer for Cancer United!

Every year, we hold vital fundraising events and go out into the community to raise awareness for Cancer United which we simply couldn't do without our volunteers.

We wouldn't have OUTRUNCANCER or OUTPLANTCANCER without volunteers. Nor would we have any of our barn dances, quizzes, Christmas fairs, choir concerts or any of the brilliant events we hold without the people who give up their time and skills to make them work brilliantly.

So Thank You to everyone who volunteers for us in any capacity - you are appreciated beyond measure! 💛💜

Dwayne and Jan were privileged to be representing Cancer United at the founding excellence event which included the laying of the foundation stone at the Sussex Cancer Centre construction site at the Royal Sussex Hospital Brighton - Jan and Dwayne were looked after for the morning by Lorraine Wilson Head of Nursing Cancer Division and were able to see just how amazing this new cancer centre will be for the people of Sussex. Thank you for having us 💜💛

🎨🖌The hugely talented Neil Bulpitt is once again using his skills to raise money for Cancer United. He is holding an exhibition, alongside Irene Jordan, at the Atelier Gallery in Angmering.

The Exhibition will run from 3rd -6th June, 10am -4pm, with a drinks reception on Friday 5th June 5pm-7pm.

🛵🛵The fabulous folks from Worthing Custom Scooter Show paid a visit to Cancer United HQ on Saturday, to present us with a cheque for £2027, which they raised from their brilliant event back in March!

We loved seeing all of the scooters up close, and meeting the lovely team behind the scooter show.

Can you help our Trustee??

One of our lovely Cancer United Trustees, Gesine, is looking for help with a research project she is working on...Here is what she has to say:

"As a trustee of Cancer United and someone involved in community-based research, I am currently working on a project exploring infectious diseases in collaboration with Brighton’s Centre of Infection and Antimicrobial Research (CINAMR) and Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS).

We are developing a community engagement plan to ensure that people from different backgrounds are meaningfully included in infectious disease research. As part of this work, I am looking for volunteers to take part in a short interview (approx. 30 minutes) to share their experiences and perspectives.

I am particularly interested in speaking with individuals who:
• Have experienced an infectious illness as a result of cancer treatment (e.g. due to a weakened immune system), or
• Have had a significant infectious illness alongside their cancer journey (excluding COVID-19)

Your insights will help shape how research is designed and delivered in a more inclusive and representative way.

As a token of appreciation, participants will receive a £25 voucher for their time.
