What a pleasure it was to be invited to the Barns Green Rugby Football Club Vice Presidents lunch recently. One again the club presented us with a cheque after fundraising through their 'Tash for Cash' event which raised a massive Β£2,000 for our West Sussex South branch. A huge thank you to James Dickson who is the mastermind behind the event.

Vice President, Alan Lambkin and his team made me feel very welcome and lunch was delicious. The club is currently looking for new contact players and would welcome enquiries from anyone who is interested. Please contact the club through their online email form at www.barnsgreenrfc.co.uk

Barns Green have raised Β£12,000 for us and we thank them for all their tremendous support. The money they have raised has enabled us to help many of our people living with MND in the community.

In 1985, after losing her mother to MND, Frances Ramsden attended a meeting to discuss setting up a local MND Association branch: the West Sussex South Branch.

Fast forward to 2025 - the branch is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month, and Frances remains on the committee.

We would like to congratulate the MNDA West Sussex South branch on their special anniversary.

And to Frances, thank you for your 40 years of hard work, enthusiasm and dedication. You are amazing. 🧑

The 2025 AGM of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association West Sussex South was held on 28th April and we were celebrating our 40th Anniversary.

Although a special celebration, it was also a sad occasion as one of our very valued Association Visitors, Angela Burgess, died very unexpectedly and suddenly just a week before.

However, Angela would not want us to cancel our 40th Anniversary particularly as Frances Ramsden was one of the founder members of the branch.

Frances lost her beloved mother to MND and wanted to give back for the help her Mum & Family received in the Liverpool area. However there was not a Branch in Sussex in 1985 and so Frances along with others formed the MND Association West Sussex South.

Back then meetings were held in Frances’s living room, and since that time the West Sussex South Branch has gone from strength to strength. With Frances supporting the Association as a valued volunteer for 40 years.

To mark the occasion Claire Bickley Head of Regional Support and Partnerships presented Frances with a signed certificate to commemorate her service to the association & the Volunteers at the Branch clubbed together to give Frances a cream tea for 2 at the Goodwood Estate and a tour around Goodwood House.

To further celebrate our 40 years our members are walking 40 miles in May or doing 40 of any activity they can in order to raise much needed funds for the Association.

There is a just giving page dedicated to this Anniversary. Please give generously via the link below:

The National Chopper Club (NCC) with their unique motorcycles arrived in Eastbourne for their May Bank Holiday Run on Sunday 4th May 2025.

There must have been around 600 of these amazing machines, all lovingly designed and built by their owners. The club is well supported and is celebrating over 50 years of custom motorcycling. There were members from all over the UK and Europe who had travelled to Eastbourne to join fellow Chopper Club enthusiasts celebrate the May Bank Holiday.

To see them riding through the town all together was an amazing spectacle. To put on a run like this takes months of organisation but is totally worthwhile, especially when you listen to the passion of the owners and the fun they had over the whole weekend.

You can read more about the National Chopper Club by following this link: https://chopper-club.com/

We were invited to attend by Cliff & Sofy NCC Sussex. Cliff sadly lost his father to MND, and other members of the club have also sadly lost their fight to the disease. Indeed, one gentleman was due to attend the run but unfortunately died just before the event. They wanted to support the Association in memory of friends and family.

We took our new Gazebo along and had the privilege of being up-close to the cycles. There were volunteers from the MND Association East and West Sussex Branch's sharing the christening of our Gazebo which was kindly sponsored by The David Hunt Trust.

A big thank you to the organisers of NCC for inviting the MND Association and for their support. May their club continue for many more years to come.
