Friends,
It's that time again ! While the recent sunny weather has encouraged our lovely wild flowers to thrive at Lock 21, it's also boosted the 'nuisance' plants and weeds. We need a 'gardening session' to de-weed and take out the familiar Himalayan Balsam, whose seeds burst forth and threaten to colonise the site, alongside other invasive plants.
Since Network Rail have removed lots of trees down the branch line to Looe, the view of our lock is so much more visible to passing train passengers, as well as those who use the lane, which is great.
Our next work session is planned for Saturday 20th June and you will be most welcome to come and join the team, any time from 10.00 until around 4.00 pm. Don't worry if you can only spend a short while at the Lock, you will be most welcome. I know that a couple of you find Saturdays difficult, so we will try and manage a Sunday later in the summer season, to accommodate your availability.
We now have our Network Rail provided gazebo, which will give a little bit of shade to rest in. As usual, please bring along a gardening fork, or other useful implement, if you can. Wear some sensible shoes or boots, a pair of gloves and a dollop of sun cream. If you want to stay all day, bring a packed lunch and plenty of drink. If you have been issued with a pink Network Rail tabard, please bring that along.
Indeed, thanks again to those of you who have visited the site, outside of our organised working parties. You can visit the site individually, whenever you have a spare hour or two, as long as you're wearing your pink tabard, to satisfy Network Rail that you're not a trespasser.
Please put the date in your diary - Brian and I hope you can join the fun once again on Saturday 20th June.
