Linlithgow Tool Library will be open over the Easter Weekend but we might be working with fewer volunteers.

Our volunteers have been busy looking at stock levels and consumables with a view to sell on some items that are never being hired and also to ensure there’s at least a few blades and bits with each item. This will take time to check as we have a large inventory.

Garden Tools are popular right now as the weather improves. Please make sure all tools are clean when returned to help us keen the whole LCDT Hub clean and also to speed up turnaround time. Especially tools that have been in the soil or cutting grass, etc.

We’ve replaced our rolling lawn aerator as the old one was well worn. Hopefully the new one will last us many years of use.

We will reopen for hires on Monday 5th January at our usual time.

Our volunteers are busy enjoying a well earned break and will be looking forward to helping to meet you in the new year.

If we don’t stock the sorts of things you wish to hire, please let us know. We are constantly reviewing, replacing and updating our stock with new and good quality donated items.

Last Tool Library session for 2025 is tomorrow 19th Dec.

We have a lot of items to be returned, checked and stored as well as items going out over the festive holidays.

Please return all items as early as possible (say 9-10am) and collect from (10-11am) to help us manage the volume of orders and also give us time to tidy up before we close.

Did you know that you can borrow a reusable party pack from our Tool Library?

In the past year our party pack has saved a whopping 7655 single use items which is a huge increase on last year's total of 864!

It is also listed on the Party Kit Network, a site that encourages party hosts to choose reusable items rather than disposable plastic plates, cups etc.

Using an old worktop, we now have better storage for all our large garden power tools, pressure washers and carpet cleaners.
Thanks to the volunteer Shedders for constructing it and helping to keep the Tool Library a safe space to work in.

We will be reviewing stock as we seem to have surplus machines which can be sold at the Tool Sale in Sept.

Holiday season doesn’t seem to impact tool hires. We have over 15% of our stock out on loan right now which is keeping us busy managing transactions, servicing items when they return and reviewing stock levels too.

Over the next week we will be adding some shelving to make it a bit easier to store garden tools and carpet cleaners.
So expect a little chaos while we move items around.

Lots of items being hired out in July which keeps all our volunteers busy checking, maintaining and cleaning stock before it’s available for the next person.

If the equipment is damaged, such as a cut electrical cable, it is essential that you inform us when you drop it off or sooner. We cannot afford the risk of injuring our volunteers or other tool lib members. Please do not drop items off and leave without reporting such issues. Membership rules are clear.

“The Member agrees that if any borrowed tool becomes unsafe or in a state of disrepair, he or she must immediately discontinue use of the tool and notify the Library of the issue on return, if not earlier.”

We accept that cables can be accidentally cut and will replace damaged cables without charge if it was an accident, but it’s a serious H&S issue to return an item without reporting such defects.

Volunteers often wonder what creative and practical projects are possible when members borrow tools from our community library.
Especially when hire contains an odd mix of tools that you can’t imagine working together. Clearly there’s a lot going on.

Sadly, we rarely hear of the benefits and success stories.

So… if you can share pictures, articles, blogs, videos, or whatever, then either post them here or mention Linlithgow Tool Library as a link in your own post.

Looking forward to hearing all about the results from borrowing our tools. And perhaps even stories for the games, party kits and gazebos too.
