For the last few weeks, the Burgh Beautiful team has been keeping a wonderful secret to safeguard some very special local residents. Now that they have all safely fledged, we can finally share the news!

While many know us for making Linlithgow beautiful, with our hanging baskets, planters, and flower beds, we also look after our wider environment through insect-friendly beds, tree planting, and maintaining our wildflower areas.

As part of this, we've installed bird boxes in Rosemount Park, the Carmelite Friary grounds, and Doomsdale Wood. Six of these boxes are hinged, allowing us to carefully inspect them during the nesting season following British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) guidelines.

๐Ÿ  100% Occupancy: Five boxes housed blue t**s, and one housed great t**s!

๐Ÿฃ 26 chicks successfully hatched and fledged!

๐Ÿ” One mystery count: We couldn't count the final box because the dedicated parent was always sitting on the nestโ€”even when we could hear the young chicks cheeping happily underneath her!

Because every single box was occupied, there is a clear need for more nesting sites in our town. We are hoping to purchase additional boxes for the 2027 season to give even more birds a safe home.
