“How do you even start the process for epilepsy surgery?”

In this episode of the Let’s Talk About Epilepsy podcast, Dr Lara Carr is joined by Professor Helen Cross and Tanisha from the Youth Voice Network to talk through what the journey can look like.

One of the first steps is speaking to your child’s neurologist about a referral. From there, families may be referred to a specialist centre for further assessment and support. Epilepsy is different for everyone, and this process won’t be the same for every child.

It’s important to speak to a healthcare professional about what’s right for your child and family.

Your child could shape the future of epilepsy research 🔬

We're collaborating with Loughborough University on the PACE Prime study, which looks into how epilepsy can affect physical activity in children. But to do it, we need your help.

We're looking for children aged 6-10 years old, with or without epilepsy, to take part. They also must not have any other conditions that limit physical activity.

It's a brilliant opportunity to contribute to research that could make a real difference to children living with epilepsy. Plus, all participants will get a £15 Amazon voucher as a thank you 💜

👉 And if you know a parent whose child might want to get involved, pass this post on to them.

Meet Roman. Eight years old, football fan, trampoline lover and living with epilepsy ⚽️

A year ago, Roman's family woke up to find him having a seizure in bed.

Within days, he was diagnosed with focal onset epilepsy after a tonic-clonic seizure. For his parents Gem and Paul, those first weeks were overwhelming, scary, and full of questions.

But as epilepsy entered their lives, Roman just kept going. And watching his energy, bravery and absolute refusal to slow down has made his family incredibly proud 💜

If you're a parent or carer navigating a new diagnosis, or simply looking for a story that reminds you what's possible, Roman's is one worth reading: https://ow.ly/qMHP50Z6cT7
