We redistribute surplus food, that would otherwise be landfilled or incinerated. If food waste were a country, it would be one of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world! Often the food redistributed through community fridges is fresh and nutritious, but it may have lost retail value (like seasonal foods), schools may have spare fruit and veg, or it is beyond it's Best Before Date- t
his means the shops cannot sell it, but it is still perfectly edible! We do not redistribute products that are not on our food safe list, or that are past their Use By Date. All you need to do is check that we are open and pop along and collect some food. Each week the amount of food we will have will be different, this is the nature of surplus food. We want as many people as possible to get some goodies, and we are ALL about sharing. Each week our volunteers will be able to help guide you, so please ask for help. Do I need to qualify to use the fridge? No, the fridge is open to all. Our aim is to reduce food waste. All food we distribute is surplus. We actively ask all members of the community to please come and take some food, as we are trying to reduce food waste! Do you need any personal details from me? No, we don't need any of your personal details. All you need to do is take some food with you. We record all weights of food we redistribute, but we will do this all beforehand. Can I reserve a bag of food? Unfortunately at the moment we're not able to reserve bags of food, this is because at the end of every session all food must be gone as we cannot store food past Saturday morning. To avoid disappointment, please arrive at our opening time. We also cannot guarantee food will be available so please check our facebook before making long journeys! Can I donate food? Normally Community Fridges accept household donations of food (this may be extra veggies from your allotment, unopened packets of pasta etc) that are on the "food safe" list. However at the moment we don't have the capacity to accept from households. We would love to in the future though especially as harvest season approaches, so please check back for changes. Do I have to pay? You do not have to pay anything to use the Lingfield Larder and our volunteers can't accept cash donations. Where can I park? You can park in Gunpit Road for free for a limited period with a ticket from the machine- please check time limits and make sure you get a ticket for the free period. You can also park on the highstreet. Who runs the Lingfield Larder? We are run by a committed group of volunteers. Can I volunteer? We'd love to grow our group of committed volunteers, if you'd like to volunteer please drop us a message!
