Ray Parnell, a History Group member and IBCC guide, gave members a tour of the International Bomber Command Centre today.
A fascinating talk was followed by lunch in the cafe.

10 June 2011.
Today’s ’On this Day’ photo memories reminded me that the History Group, together with the Parish Council and the War Memorials Trust, arranged for the repair of the War Memorial Playing Field gates.
The refurbished was done by heritage blacksmith Bob Oakes (pictured wielding a spirit level).
Originally installed in 1947, they were looking a little worse for wear!

Many memories for older Saxilby residents I suspect.
We have been digitising articles from our archive of 1980s Foss Focus articles.
With improvements in AI, I am now able to improve old newspaper photos without changing the basic image.

Saxilby High Street c1910.
Mark Read took over his father William’s shop, which opened in the late 1800s.
This view is very different, with both the shop, together with Bedlam Row in the distance, gone.

West Bank, Saxilby. 1935 - 1938.

I have restored this photo we were given 3 years ago.
Whilst we can’t see the loco number, research indicates that this may well be:
LNER Class A4 2509 Silver Link
This loco still has its full side valances (the streamlined skirting over the wheels). Those were removed during WWII for easier maintenance, which suggests the photo dates from roughly 1935–1938.
