A message from our committee:

Dear Members,
Following a further serious incident involving one of our volunteer bailiffs, the Lincoln & District Angling Association has taken the difficult decision to close fishing at Hartsholme with immediate effect until further notice.

This decision has not been taken lightly. Over a prolonged period, our volunteer bailiffs have been subjected to repeated verbal abuse, intimidation and anti-social behaviour while carrying out their duties at the fishery. Most recently, a bailiff was abused and chased from the park by a group of youths, leading to his resignation from the Association.

Our bailiffs give their time freely to support the membership and protect our fisheries. Their safety and wellbeing must come before anything else. No volunteer should feel threatened or intimidated simply for carrying out their role.

The temporary closure will allow the Association to:

* Review the recent incidents and their impact on our volunteers.
* Engage with the relevant authorities and stakeholders.
* Consider what measures, if any, can make the venue safe to operate.
* Reflect on our longer-term position regarding the lease and future of the fishery.

We appreciate that this news will disappoint many members who enjoy fishing the venue. However, we hope you will understand that we have a duty of care to those who volunteer their time on behalf of the Association.

We will keep members informed as the situation develops and will provide updates as soon as decisions have been made.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Lincoln & District Angling Association Committee.

Water Safety Reminder.

As temperatures rise in the city this week, some will begin to think of taking a swim. We know that, at times, lakes and rivers in our city can be very inviting, especially to children.

We ask that everybody takes care over the coming days, and remind you that the city's lakes, ponds, and rivers are not suitable for swimming, no matter how inviting they may look.

Clean public swimming pools are readily available in the city and wider area, but if open water swimming is your thing, or you want to try it, please make sure that you research some of the safe purpose made/maintained facilities in the area.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Starmers Lake is closed until further notice.
