We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dessie Sheridan, aged 77, from Tattyreagh, following a single-vehicle collision involving a tractor in the Fintona area outside Omagh on Friday.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Dessie’s family, friends, neighbours and all who knew and loved him. The loss of a loved one brings immense sadness and heartbreak, and no family should have to face such grief alone.

Please know that Road Victim Support Northern Ireland is here to offer emotional and practical support in any way we can to those affected by this tragic loss.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service who attended the scene and responded with professionalism and compassion in difficult circumstances.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dessie’s loved ones and the wider community at this very sad time.

🎉 BIG NEWS FOR ROAD VICTIM SUPPORT NORTHERN IRELAND–DONEGAL 🎉

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Road Victim Support Northern Ireland–Donegal has been awarded funding through The National Lottery Community Fund Northern Ireland

This is a significant milestone for our charity and an important step forward in strengthening the support we provide to individuals and families whose lives have been affected by road traffic collisions.

Thanks to this funding, we will now be able to deliver our peer support meetings on a monthly basis, rather than every two months, providing more regular opportunities for people to connect, share experiences, and receive support from others who truly understand their journey.

The funding will support in-person meetings across:

📍 Cookstown – Mid Ulster
📍 Limavady – Causeway Coast and Glens
📍 Derry City – North West

Our Letterkenny, Donegal support group will continue to operate and remains an important part of our service, although it is not funded through this particular award.

For many of the families we support, attending an in-person meeting can be life-changing. Following the devastation of losing a loved one or experiencing a life-changing injury in a road collision, many people describe feeling isolated, misunderstood, and alone. These meetings provide a safe, compassionate environment where people can connect with others who have walked a similar path.

This funding will allow us to reach more families, provide more consistent support, and ensure that no one has to face the aftermath of a road traffic collision alone.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to The National Lottery Community Fund and to National Lottery players whose support makes funding like this possible. Your contribution will have a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of road victims and their families throughout our communities.

This award represents more than funding—it represents hope, connection, and the opportunity to ensure that those affected by road tragedy have somewhere to turn when they need support most.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our charity and believed in our mission. We look forward to this exciting new chapter and to continuing our work supporting road victims and their families across Northern Ireland and Donegal.

A road traffic collision can change life in an instant.

The impact reaches far beyond the scene of a crash, affecting individuals, families, friends and entire communities. The emotional, practical and financial challenges that follow can often feel overwhelming.

At Road Victim Support NI–Donegal, we understand that every journey is different. We provide compassionate support, guidance and understanding to those affected by road trauma, helping people find hope, strength and a way forward.

Because nobody should have to face road trauma alone.

Road Victim Support Northern Ireland & Donegal are delighted to be attending the upcoming After the Crash Conference 2026, hosted by Brake, the road safety charityBrake. We are especially proud that our Chairperson, Debbie Counselling Mullan, has been invited to speak as a guest speaker at this prestigious event.

It’s a privilege to be invited to contribute alongside leading professionals, campaigners, police representatives, family liaison officers, and fellow road victim organisations is a significant milestone for our charity. It reflects the work we have undertaken to support families affected by road death, while ensuring that victims’ voices remain at the heart of discussions around post-crash care and road justice.

This opportunity also highlights the importance of collaboration across the sector. By working together with organisations such as Brake and other road safety and victim support charities, we can share knowledge, strengthen support services, advocate more effectively for victims, and help drive meaningful change. No single organisation can address the challenges faced by road victims alone, but through partnership and collective action, we can make a greater impact for families when they need it most.

We look forward to joining colleagues from across the UK in Manchester, learning from best practice, sharing our experiences, and continuing to build strong relationships that benefit the families and communities we serve.

☀️With the sunshine finally arriving across Northern Ireland and Donegal, many of us are reaching for the flip-flops, sliders, and crocs☀️

While they might be perfect for the beach or a quick shop run, they’re not always the safest choice behind the wheel.

At Road Victim Support Northern Ireland-Donegal., we just want to highlight how loose footwear can affect your control of the pedals, especially for new drivers who may not have fully built up their confidence yet… or even for one of our volunteers who tried crocs for the first time and quickly realised they’re not ideal for driving ….

A simple choice of footwear can make a big difference in an emergency situation.

Drive safe. Arrive safe. 💙

💙 In Loving Memory of Cecilia McMenamin 💙

Last night, Road Victim Support NI Donegal was honoured to receive a donation of £1,400 (£1,300 by cheque and £100 in cash) from the McMenamin family, raised through funeral donations and family contributions in memory of the late Cecilia McMenamin.

Cecilia was much more than a supporter of our organisation; she was a dear friend to so many within our group. She brought warmth, kindness, compassion, and understanding to every meeting she attended. Her little nuggets of wisdom, gentle encouragement, and caring nature helped countless people through difficult times and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Cecilia fundraised tirelessly for Road Victim Support NI Donegal over many years. In loving memory of her beloved granddaughter, Caoimhè, she also helped raise funds that enabled us to design and purchase our organisation’s logo badges, a legacy that remains close to our hearts.

We are deeply grateful to Cecilia’s family and friends for thinking of our organisation at this difficult time and for their generous donation. This money will be set aside for a very special project that will continue to honour Cecilia’s memory and all that she was to our group, a kind friend, dedicated supporter, fundraiser, and source of wisdom and encouragement to so many. Through this project, her legacy will continue to touch the lives of others for years to come.

Pictured at the presentation are Marie F, Paddy McMenamin, Jim McMenamin and Marie O’Brien .

On behalf of everyone at Road Victim Support NI Donegal, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Marie and the entire McMenamin family. Thank you for sharing Cecilia with us. She will never be forgotten and will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched.

May Cecilia rest in peace. 💙
