There are some days that just feel special from the very first moment, and this year’s event at Curborough was one of them. Bathed in glorious sunshine, with a record number of spectators pouring steadily through the gates and an impressive line-up of static display vehicles, the stage was set for a celebration of motoring like no other.
The track itself came alive with 75 cars and bikes, each taking their turn to tackle three (for the most part) lively laps of Curborough’s famous figure-of-eight sprint course. It was a true feast for the senses: the gentle elegance of a 1909 Hupmobile gliding past one moment, followed by the fire-breathing and bellowing, bright orange 1976 Ford Capri “Catering Meats Special” the next. The sheer variety of machinery meant there was something for everyone, whether your passion lies in early motoring history or in raw, unfiltered power.
Keeping the crowd entertained throughout the day were not one, but three commentators, whose combined humour, knowledge and enthusiasm made sure there was never a dull moment. Their witty observations and informative running order gave the day its perfect soundtrack, as engines echoed around the circuit.
Of course, events like this don’t run themselves. The smooth organisation was down to the tireless efforts of a dedicated team of track and paddock marshals, along with volunteers at the gates who greeted visitors with a smile – despite the heat. Adding to the friendly atmosphere were the police cadets, who did a superb job managing parking and keeping everything moving.
It wasn’t just about cars and camaraderie either - every penny raised will go to a fantastic cause: Staffordshire Clubs for Young People, registered charity supporting youth activities across the county.
Special thanks must go to the Curborough Sprint Course and the Shenstone and District Car Club, our generous hosts, and of course, to every entrant who brought along their pride and joy. By putting their machines through their paces for the crowd’s enjoyment, they helped create memories that will last long after the last run of the day.
All told, it was a day of sunshine, spectacle and community spirit - the very best of what grassroots motorsport has to offer.
