We’re often asked is there an age limit for passengers on The Big Red Bike Lichfield?

Answer: Not at all!!!

And one of this week’s passengers proved it… we were lucky enough to take 101 year old, Alan out for a ride around Lichfield city centre, the Lichfield Cathedral and Beacon Park, Lichfield District Council.

A thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding cycle for our volunteers as well as our passengers!

That’s what Harriet and Pat from The Spires Care Home - Barchester Healthcare enjoyed yesterday on their bike ride around Beacon Park, the town centre, and Lichfield Cathedral.

We have ride availability, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you think a friend, relative or neighbour would enjoy a similar outing. We can often pick up directly from homes.

As a charity seeking to reduce isolation and share the enjoyment of being outdoors, our services are free (donations are welcome so we can continue our work).

Some of the The Big Red Bike Lichfield volunteer team will be at the Volunteers Fair in the Lichfield Guildhall this Saturday, 10th October, 12pm to 2pm.

⏱️ Realise you don’t have to commit to lots of hours and that volunteering is very flexible.

🥳 Today we welcomed and trained three new volunteer cyclists to ride our The Big Red Bike Lichfield. This means we have more availability to take out residents of Lichfield and surrounding villages on a leisurely bike ride.

🏞️ Our charity is aimed at reducing isolation, and giving those who have have reduced mobility or are elderly the chance to get fresh air in their lungs and explore beautiful parts of our wonderful city. We always aim to stop for a cuppa tea too!

🎂 Want to surprise a relative/friend with an usual outing to celebrate their birthday?

🚲 That’s exactly what our bike volunteers helped with today - taking out Vanessa and Sue from Hawthorn House Care Home. It was Vanessa’s birthday so we treated her to a cycle ride to Lichfield Cathedral and around Beacon Park… ending up in a cafe for a superb cup of tea!

🆓 If you have a friend or relative who is unable to get out much and would enjoy a ride on our Big Red Bike, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Rides are free, but donations to our charity are very much appreciated so we can continue our work.

🍁 With the weather turning more autumnal, there’s no need to feel glum and stay indoors… give us* a call, and we’ll take you on a cycle ride around Beacon Park to see the stunning flower beds.

🚲*We are a local charity established with the aim of reducing isolation for those with limited mobility and are in need of a breath of fresh air. No age limits. We even have blankets for the cooler weather!

📍Routes include Beacon Park, Lichfield, Shenstone, Alrewas, Whittington and Fradley Junction.
