Time to celebrate the achievements of a different group today. Last Friday our Young Leaders, who are also Explorers, attended a district awards ceremony. Safe to say our group were hugely successful...as usual.

There's no time to list everything they won individually, but there were Young Leader belts. DoE bronze awards, DoE Silver awards, Chief Scout's Platimun awards and a Chief Scout's Diamond award. My only badge is for sleeping in a tent in the cold!

Congratulations to all the young leaders, you're all destined for BIG things.

People of Leyland and surrounding areas...you are all safer now than you were on Thursday morning! Thank me later!

The reason for your increased safety is that we now have 25 highly trained Cubs able to provide lv.3 emergency aid if needed. On Thursday the pack learned how to place someone in a safe position, CPR, how to dress minor wounds, and how to deal with other emergency situations (one Cub dad needs a physio after his Cub demonstrated how to deal with a choking casualty). Why this isn't part of the National Curriculum is beyond me, but not to worry, Cubs to the rescue.

Thinking of buying a defib now and setting up a rapid response service in Leyland (Cub Callout?!) as ambulance waiting times aren't getting any shorter and we're already in NWAS green!

Very proud of all my Cubs!

Having scoured the New Year's Honours list I'm shocked to find no mention of our CUBS or their leaders, so, bearing in mind we have all promised to do our duty to the King, so I assume he follows us on social media, here are some of the community based projects our CUBS have been involved with...

Cubs made and donated 10 bird houses to Leyland in Bloom who put them up around public spaces in Leyland.

Our Cubs supported an RSPB campaign

As a section, Cubs raised £1000 for the RBL by taking part in the Great Tommy Sleepout

Wade Hall Litter pick heroes and April Rayner welcomed Cubs to many of their Sunday events

If you want down to the woods on Worden Park in June you might have seen the Cubs bringing Summer Solstice to the community

For the second year in a row the Cubs section, in great numbers, attended Leyland Food Bank to take along donations, learn about the work done, and to help pack boxes

Cubs teamed up with Leyland in Bloom again to tidy up a local park

Councillor Matthew Farnworth - Seven Stars attended one of our sessions and gave us some very interesting local insights which the Cubs could take away and act on

All in all, our Cub pack goes from strength to strength and their focus on community and charity deserves some recognition...even if it's only from me.

Things got a bit serious today at the hut where we were very happy to host Sensei Phil Moulton, 9th Dan, world karate champion, 2 time European Champion, martial arts hall of fame inductee, and professional close protection officer to many household names!

A few very unsettling, and very local stories prompted us to reach out to Phil and Capricorn Security Group Ltd who were only too happy to put on a safety awareness session for leaders, young leaders, and mums. I think it's fair to say that everyone left with an improved perspective on maintaining their safety and hopefully a little more confidence.

More importantly though, there was cake, because even ninjas love cake and we are Scouts afterall!

Thanks Phil, and thanks Capricorn Security.

Hi Everyone

We're looking for a bit of help!

On Saturday 11th October, 12 of our Cubs are entering the Cub Mudder challenge at Bispham Hall Scout Estate. Yes...this will be as messy as it sounds.

We've covered the entry and transport costs, Inkit have helped us out with some t-shirts, but it would be great if someone wanted to assist with feeding 12 hungry Cubs (they will be clean, but ravenous).

Does anyone have any contacts at local restaurants where we could go at about 5pm on Saturday 11th October. I know it's peak time, but we're not asking for a free meal (there's no such thing) just a bit of help with the cost which the group will be picking up.

In exchange you get: -

* our company
* some good publicity
* eternal gratitude

If you can help, or you know someone else who can, don't be shy, drop me an email on [email protected]
