We’re pleased to report that the LFWI will attend the Lancashire Schools Sustainability Conference at Blackburn Rovers FC on Thursday 25th June. Students, teachers and organisations from across the North West will come together at this conference to share workshops and activities that connect school curriculums with real-world sustainability challenges. The LFWI team will highlight the WI’s long history of campaigning to protect the environment and exhibit current campaigns including Clean Rivers for People and Wildlife, Climate Change and End Plastic Soup.

This year’s Anglezarke Group Meeting took place at the scenic Bolton Sailing Club. Once the business of the meeting concluded, members were entertained by musical duo Pink Vintage who performed some great toe tapping tunes. Afterwards, a tasty buffet was served rounded off with delicious cake. Congratulations to the ladies of Belmont WI for putting together a wonderful group meeting.

At this year’s ACM we enjoyed an inspirational, entertaining talk by the Wild Swimming Group from Roe Green WI. Recounting both the physical and mental health benefits of cold water swimming, they also shared how this activity fostered a strong camaraderie within the group. Swimming outdoors brings into focus the importance of the WI’s Clean Rivers for People and Wildlife campaign. To show their support for this campaign the Roe Green WI swimmers worked together to make this beautiful banner which highlights the drive to clean-up our waterways.

Today is World Environment Day. Established in 1972 by the UN General Assembly, this special day raises awareness of environmental issues and helps to drive the changes required for a more sustainable planet. This year, World Environment Day focuses on climate change and asks us to listen to the urgent signals the Earth is sending us and to consider the signals we choose to send back. We are reminded that climate impacts are increasing but so too are the solutions - from using cleaner energy to reducing food waste to protecting biodiversity - we can all contribute to a brighter future.
