On Saturday 21 November, Wensleydale Rotary is offering free PSA blood testing for men aged 45–79. in Leyburn

📅 Saturday 21st November 2026
🕙 10am – 2pm
📍 Garden Rooms at Tennants, in the Cloisters, Leyburn, DL8 5SG
✅ No charge
✅ No appointment necessary
✅ A blood sample is taken and sent away for PSA testing.

Prior to the blood sample being taken you will be advised by a Consultant Urologist
Before your PSA test: For 48 hours beforehand, NHS advice is to avoid ej*******on, a**l s*x, cycling and strenuous exercise. You can eat and drink normally. If you've had a urine infection, wait 4–6 weeks after it has cleared.

Places Limited to 100: As this is our first screening event, we can offer just 100 tests. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so unfortunately some visitors may be turned away.

If successful, we hope to hold further screening events.

🎵 CLASS 1 – ACOUSTIC PERFORMERS

Open to instrumentalists and vocalists performing acoustically, either accompanied by a pianist or unaccompanied.

It's a wonderful opportunity to perform in a friendly environment, develop your confidence and share your musical ability with others.

💜Bolton Castle is Purple!!- 💜

Visitors to Wensleydale will have been surprised to see Bolton Castle taking on a purple hue over the last week.

This was to mark World Polio day which took place on the 24th October. Polio is a highly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus is spread from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can attack the nervous system, and in some instances, lead to paralysis. In 1985, Rotary pledged to rid the world of polio and spearheaded the campaign at a time when there were over 1000 polio cases a day in 125 countries. Today only two countries have endemic Polio, Pakistan and Afghanistan, and even in those countries the number of cases has fallen to low numbers. The purple colour reflects the purple dye used to mark the fingers of children that have received the inoculation.

However recent cutbacks to funding by governments across the world has meant that all the progress could be undone. Not only do the two remaining countries need to eliminate the virus completely work needs to continue to ensure that the levels of immunisation remains at a high level in the population across world to prevent the virus reappearing.

President Richard Pennell commented “Every £1 donation to the End Polio Now campaign is matched by £2 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We are so close to removing this terrible disease from the world. We are very grateful to Bolton Castle in allowing us to raise the profile of the End Polio Now Campaign”

💙 LOOK AFTER YOUR HEALTH – FREE PROSTATE SCREENING IN LEYBURN

Prostate cancer often develops without obvious symptoms. A PSA blood test can help identify changes that may need further investigation.

Today marks World Polio Day - one day, one focus: ending polio 🤝

Polio is a highly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus is spread from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can attack the nervous system, and in some instances, lead to paralysis.

We’re closer than ever to eradicating polio worldwide, but we’re not there yet. We still need funds to continue immunisations and surveillance efforts.
