Menopause affects millions of women, and yet so many experience it in silence. The symptoms are real, the impact on daily life is significant, and the conversations that might help are often nowhere near frequent enough. Mind Body and Sea is working to change that.

We are launching a new project bringing women together to share experiences, hear from expert speakers, and explore both medical and holistic approaches to this chapter of life. Sessions will cover what is actually happening in the body, what support exists, and how community and time in nature can genuinely help. The sessions will take place aboard Neverland, because there is something about being out on the water that quietens the noise and opens conversation in a way a meeting room rarely does.

This is not a clinical programme. It is a space to feel less alone, to ask the questions you have been carrying, and to meet other women who understand. Neverland is an accessible vessel for all mobilities.

We would love to hear from women who might benefit, from healthcare professionals or holistic practitioners who might like to speak, and from organisations or individuals who might wish to support or sponsor this work. If this sounds like something you or someone you know needs, please share this post with someone who might be glad you did.

Please complete the online referral form from the Mind Body and Sea website quoting project 'Pause on the Water'.

Individual referrals can be made through our website, and groups can contact the team directly on 01394 773027.

Mind Body & Sea exists because people give their time freely. Every river cruise, every quiet hour on the water, every moment someone finds their footing again after a difficult stretch, none of it happens without the volunteers who show up, week after week, to make it possible.

This Volunteers' Week, we want to say something simple: thank you. Thank you to everyone who has crewed Neverland, welcomed a new face at the water's edge, driven someone to the harbour who couldn't get there alone, or just sat alongside somebody who needed company more than words. You are not a backdrop to what we do. You are the reason it exists.

Volunteers' Week runs from 1 to 7 June and marks 42 years of celebrating volunteering across the UK. We are proud to be part of that tradition, and prouder still of the people who carry this work on their shoulders.

If you know someone whose life might be steadier with a little time on the water, a referral costs nothing and can mean everything.

Individual referrals can be made through our website, and groups can contact the team directly on 01394 773027.

Earlier this week, Mind Body & Sea successfully delivered two activities in one day for the first time this year.

The morning began with a peaceful river cruise along the calm waters of the River Stour. Guests enjoyed time outdoors, conversation, and the chance to reconnect with the water in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

One guest, returning to the water after many years away, spoke about how much it meant to experience life afloat again and how accessible they found moving around Neverland.
We also welcomed back returning guests who had previously joined us on a river cruise last year. Their feedback afterwards reflected exactly why these sessions matter:

“After the trip, we both felt more relaxed, invigorated, and uplifted. The experience made us feel welcomed, listened to, and cared for. Everyone is very friendly and approachable. We would certainly encourage others to refer themselves for this experience.”

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to an accessible fishing trip off the coast of Felixstowe. With support from the team on board, guests living with dementia were able to fully take part in the session, enjoying the fishing, the fresh air, and the familiar comfort of spending time outdoors doing something they have loved throughout their lives.

Lesser spotted dogfish were soon coming aboard, with plenty of smiles to match the catches.
Delivering two successful sessions in one day was a proud moment for the whole team and another reminder of the difference these experiences can make.

Mind Body & Sea continues to deliver health and wellbeing activities for groups and individuals living across Ipswich and East Suffolk.

Individual referrals can be made through our website, and groups can contact the team directly on 01394 773027.

Yesterday we welcomed another group of veterans aboard Neverland through our ongoing collaboration between Combat2Coffee and Mind Body & Sea.

With a lively easterly wind making conditions challenging at times, we worked with what the day gave us and set out in search of thornback rays. It did not take long before the first fish hit the deck, with Paul landing a lovely 8lb ray to get things underway.

More rays followed through the session, with Crew Andy and Nick even managing to grab a rare chance to fish themselves. Dave, fishing from the stern, also got amongst the action with a couple of cracking rays of his own. Alongside the rays, there was a steady stream of dogfish and whiting coming over the rails to keep everyone busy throughout the day.

As always, the fishing was only part of it. Stories were shared, plenty of banter flew around the boat, and the tea and coffee kept flowing as the group reflected on their time serving Queen and Country in the relaxed surroundings aboard Neverland.

A great day with good company. We’re looking forward to our next trip in June.

A Day on the Water with Blesma Veterans

We had the privilege of welcoming members of Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, aboard for a dedicated fishing trip designed around accessibility, inclusion, and shared experience.

From the moment lines hit the water, the tone was set. Strong camaraderie, plenty of humour, and a healthy level of competition carried throughout the day. The vessel, Neverland, allowed for an accessible layout that ensured that every angler could fully participate, which is not always the case in fishing experiences.

The fishing delivered too. Over 40 fish were caught across the group, including thornback rays, dogfish, and whiting. For many, the highlight was not the numbers, but the process. Watching rods, feeling bites, and sharing each moment as a team.

There is an assumption that trips like this are only about relaxation, but what stood out was the group's engagement, focus, and shared purpose.

We are proud to support organisations like Blesma and to create space where veterans can reconnect, challenge themselves, and enjoy time on the water together.

We are incredibly proud to share that Mind Body & Sea CIC has been awarded a Certificate of Gratitude and Recognition by Gulshan Kayembe, High Sheriff of Suffolk.

This recognition reflects the dedication, compassion, and hard work shown by our volunteers, supporters, and everyone involved in delivering meaningful experiences on the water for our community.

Receiving this award is a huge honour and a reminder of why we do what we do. We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to continuing our work across Suffolk and beyond.

Following the success of our first fishing trip, we’re excited to once again be partnering with Mind Body & Sea CIC to invite veterans to join us for a series of fishing trips starting this May! 🚤🎣

Departing from Suffolk Yacht Harbour, each trip offers eight veterans the opportunity to fish for a range of seasonal species under the expert guidance of the Mind Body & Sea crew.

We’ll be running one trip in May, June and July. No fishing experience is required and all equipment will be provided — you’ll just need to bring a packed lunch.

There will be a small cost to help cover running costs and equipment hire, but we’re working to keep this as low as possible.

If you’d like to be part of this experience, please express your interest by emailing: [email protected]

Don’t miss out! 🎣

We are proud to announce that Mind Body & Sea CIC and Level Two Youth Project will once again be working together this year, following the huge success of last season’s youth trips aboard Neverland.

Last year, young people experienced a wide range of activities, including:

Crabbing
Fishing
Seal and wildlife watching
Learning about and using equipment on board
Sightseeing along the river and coast
Music, dancing, and simply enjoying being young

With Level Two youth workers alongside Mind Body & Sea volunteers, the programme created a safe and supportive environment where young people built confidence, strengthened friendships, developed practical skills, and connected with nature.

This year’s delivery will follow the same successful model, adapting to weather and sea conditions to ensure every trip is safe, engaging, and full of opportunity.

We look forward to welcoming young people back aboard Neverland for another season of growth, laughter, and meaningful time on the water.

In March 2025, four well-known veterans, Jason Fox, Karl Hinett, Brian Wood MC, and Aldo Kane, came together as Project Fire and Ice to complete a 500 km Arctic Ultra through the forests of Swedish Lapland. The expedition pushed them through extreme cold, deep snow, and sustained physical and mental challenge.

Their journey has been captured in a Channel 4 documentary, which will be broadcast on Monday 19 January at 10 pm.

At the very end of their marathon effort, those watching closely will spot a familiar logo. The Project Fire and Ice team chose to include the Mind Body & Sea CIC logo on their finish banner in recognition of the work we do, particularly our commitment to supporting veteran wellbeing through connection, purpose, and time on the water.

We are deeply grateful to the team for their support and for helping raise awareness of the importance of wellbeing beyond service. Their gesture means a great deal to everyone involved in Mind Body & Sea and to the veteran community we are proud to support.

Mind Body & Sea concludes project Vitamin Sea after supporting 172 people across East Suffolk.

As 2025 draws to a close, Mind Body & Sea marks the successful conclusion of its Vitamin Sea project, an inclusive, water-based wellbeing initiative delivered across East Suffolk.

Launched on 1st May 2025, the project was designed to support mental wellbeing, reduce loneliness, and help address social isolation by reconnecting people with nature and with each other through East Suffolk’s blue spaces.

Delivered from Levington Marina, activities included guided river cruises, wildlife observation, beginner fishing workshops, and photography composition sessions. Central to the project was the use of the vessel Neverland, a versatile and stable powered boat offering comfort both inside and out. This enabled safe and accessible participation for individuals with a wide range of mobility and support needs.

Vitamin Sea was developed in close partnership with healthcare professionals and community organisations, including GPs and social prescribers, Turning Point, Felixstowe Area Stroke Support Group, Memory Lane, Combat2Coffee, Hope Trust, Orwell Mencap, East Suffolk Council Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, and the Shaw Trust. This collaborative approach ensured the project reached people who could most benefit from early, preventative, non-clinical support.

The original aim of the project was to support 150 individuals. Mind Body & Sea is pleased to report that this target was exceeded, with 172 people supported during delivery. Participants included stroke survivors, individuals in addiction recovery, unpaid carers, and people experiencing poor mental health. Feedback highlighted improvements in wellbeing, confidence, and a renewed sense of connection.

Participants were supported throughout by trained volunteers, with a careful triage process used to match individuals to the most appropriate activities. This approach ensured sessions were accessible, safe, and responsive to individual needs.

The project was made possible through funding from East Suffolk Council’s Enabling Communities Budget, with the support of Felixstowe councillors Rosie Smithson, Lee Reeves, Mike Deacon, and Mark Jepson. Their support demonstrates a shared commitment to working together with the community and addressing health inequalities through locally focused initiatives.

As Vitamin Sea comes to an end, its impact continues through the relationships formed, the confidence gained, and the lasting connection participants have built with East Suffolk’s waterways. The project demonstrates the value of nature-based initiatives in supporting wellbeing and strengthening community resilience.

Mind Body & Sea would like to thank all participants, partners, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to the project’s success throughout 2025.
