Open call: River Park Artist Residency!

We are seeking an Artist in Residence to contribute creative research exploring heritage materials in the River Park in Levenmouth, Fife.

The residency is an opportunity for a locally-based or locally-connected creative to spend dedicated time within the River Park, exploring its landscape, ecologies, communities, past industries and stories through material research and community engagement.

During the residency, the artist will produce a body of research and ideas considering potential material uses, patterns, textures, shapes, forms or processes that could be incorporated into interpretation and public art for the River Park.
Artists working across visual arts, socially engaged practice, environmental arts, craft, interdisciplinary practice and other relevant disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The residency will be delivered between August - November 2026.

Did you know that our friends at MCCI Methilhill Community Children's Initiative run a community cafe? Head along to the MCCI Centre for a bacon roll, sandwich or delicious bowl of soup! 🥪

We were so touched to receive this lovely message from a recent visitor:

"Hi folks, just been to a lovely wee cafe next to Methilhill Bowling Club. Highly recommend this place. Staff so friendly, we were served by the lovely Michelle, nothing too much trouble. Give it a wee try, we will certainly be back with our two other friends. MCCI Community Cafe is its name. 10/10."

Receiving feedback like this really makes our day. Thank you so much to everyone who has visited the MCCI Community Café since we opened and taken the time to support us. A special mention to Michelle our brilliant staff member for her friendly and welcoming attitude.

Not been along yet? The café is open Monday to Friday from 9:30am until 1:30pm, serving breakfast rolls, homemade soup, sandwiches and hot drinks. If you haven't visited yet, we'd love to welcome you through the door for a cuppa and a chat.

Join us for Methil Mill Community Excavations beside the River Leven. This hands-on event invites members of the public to help uncover and explore the remains of Methil Mill, an important local heritage site.

📅 Saturday & Sunday 29th & 30th of August
🕚 10am–4pm
📍 River Park, Levenmouth

What to expect

🔎 Guided excavation with experienced archaeologists
🌍 Insights into Methil Mill’s history and the wider River Park
👐 Opportunities to ask questions and learn about archaeological methods

This event is open to adults and young people (Under 16s should be accompanied). No prior archaeological experience is necessary - just enthusiasm and suitable outdoor clothing. Please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing, as this is an outdoor activity.
