The second Read Easy success story we're sharing for National Storytelling week is Johnathan.
‘I went to one of the worst performing schools in the country, which has since been shut down. It was perfectly normal for teachers to swear at you and call you names, and for other children to bully you.'
Johnathan's neurodiversity was never recognised at school and he left without any qualifications. He began his journey with Read Easy over lockdown, his motivation being to help his children with homeschooling. A year later, Johnathan has a newfound love of novels and a confidence in himself.
"More than anything I want to know I have achieved something in life before my day comes and to show my kids that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Even my mother has noticed the change in me. She was smiling at me when I was reading something to her and I knew she felt proud.
I want to become something, to make an impact and to do the right thing – and I want to encourage other people like me to come forward and seek help too. Most importantly, I want to see the smiles on my children’s faces when I read to them. It’s such a massive achievement for me and nothing makes me happier".
