A huge thank you to everyone who came to our coffee morning today and supported our youth food safe project.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with some constructive comments which we can build on.

Thank you also to our hall keeper Katie and our newest LDT staff member Ben for mucking in where needed.

To Michelle who was the ‘responsible’ adult in the team when some others were maybe less so, let’s do it again it was fun 🤩

Lastly but by no means least to our amazing students who were a pleasure to work with. Alisha, Lauren, Lucy and Talhia you should be very proud of what you have achieved and the feedback from those who came along just highlights how well you have done.

Now onto you’re first official post qualification gig in September for the art show. We can’t wait to see what recipes you come up with this time around and are already looking forward to the banter in the kitchen.

This week we’ve had 4 Lesmahagow high pupils join us at the fountain for our pilot program of youth employability and skills. Initially the plan was to put them through their level 1 food safety certificate but they have done so well that not only have they passed their level 1 they’ve also completed level 2 which we expected would be done in October.

They’re still with us here at the Fountain for the rest of the week since a big part of what we’re doing is incorporating practical skills alongside the academic.

Tomorrow we’ll be putting what’s been learned into practice in the kitchen.

Thursday is baking day where the group will prepare some goodies for the big finale on Friday, our coffee morning where they will also help to serve our guests.

We’d love to see you at the coffee morning which is running from 10.30 to 12.30 on Friday in the fountain. No tickets needed.

As the final part of our youth food project we will be holding a coffee morning on Friday 7th August in the fountain. All are welcome.

Our youth food project will involve our attendees undertaking a food safe course then designing and baking the menu for our coffee morning.

If you have any suggestions for what you'd like to see them make please let us know and we will get the group to narrow down the favourites.
