Yes… we’re fundraising! When we first started looking into playground improvements, we were amazed at the cost of even relatively small pieces of equipment and surfacing.

Funding from Herefordshire Council and Leintwardine Parish Council will help, but there is still a gap between the available funding and the cost of creating a safe, long-lasting and well-designed play space.

That’s why we’ve launched a GoFundMe to help support the project. We’re committed to reusing existing equipment where possible and making thoughtful choices about any new additions, so that the playground works well for children, families and nearby residents alike.

Every donation, large or small, will help move the project forward, and sharing the fundraiser is just as valuable. We're grateful to everyone that has already made a donation or shared with their friends. 🥰

Thank you to everyone who has already shared feedback about the Criftins playground, both online and in person at the First Saturday community event.

We know people use the space in lots of different ways. Some families would like more play opportunities for toddlers or older children, while others value the open space for football and want to make sure the area doesn’t become overcrowded.

All of those views are important and are exactly why we’re carrying out a full community consultation before making any decisions.

Our aim is not to fill every inch of space with equipment, but to look carefully at how the playground can be improved, made safer, and made more useful for the community overall.

We’ve launched the Criftins Play Project page here on Facebook and wanted to explain a bit more about why this project has started.

Herefordshire Council are asking Parish Councils to take on the management of local playgrounds, with some funding available towards improvements and future upkeep. A small working group of volunteer parents and Leintwardine Parish Council has been exploring what this could mean for the Council-owned Criftins playground and how the space could be improved for local families, while still working for nearby residents and the wider community.

The current playground has served local children for many years, but some equipment is ageing, damaged or no longer suitable for long-term use. At the same time, we know the open space and football area are important too, that’s why we’re asking for as many views as possible.
