Fun and relaxed commercial street dance clases for children in leighton Buzzard

Pop Ya Collar Street Dance classes have been running in Leighton Buzzard for around 9 years, set up following a demand for pop and street dance classes in the town. Michelle and Jo both have DBS disclosure certificates and insurance cover is in place

The classes are at Tiddenfoot leisure centre on Tuesdays 6.30-7.3

0 and its most suitable for 7-12 year olds. We pride ourselves on being inclusive and accept children outside of this age range and with varying ability. Our attitude is that as long as children are having fun and moving around that all that really matters

The routines taught are choreographed to current Pop, R&B and dance music. The choreography is probably best described at commercial street dance and created in a simple way that helps encourage expression and style. Routines are taught over 4 -weeks, each week we walk through the previous steps learnt and incorporate some more, progressing to the final routine. we also play games and occasionally we encourage creativity and expression by facilitating the group to work as a team to choreograph their own routines

There is no pressure at all on the children; it’s a community group for fun. They will be made to feel comfortable whether they are strong dancers with previous experience or those that struggle with movement and coordination. We aim to create an environment that is inclusive fun and friendly. Classes are run on a pay as you go basis at £5 per 1 hour class

There are some performance opportunities, usually in the summer months that everyone is welcome (but not obligated ) to participate in, these include events such as the May day fair, Carnival and school fetes

Anyone attending class should wear loose comfortable clothing such as baggy dance trousers, jogging bottoms, vests, t-shirt’s or hoodies. Trainers or pumps should also be worn and it is advisable to bring a drink. Newcomers are welcome at any time although some people find they would rather start at the beginning of a new routine so they are at the same stage as the rest of the group. In some ways its preferable for us to be advised of new starters as we always work to balance the needs of everyone in the class and knowing if we will be having a new child helps us do this.
