Well done to Marine Cadet Teresa from our Detachment who successfully completed her Initial Weapons Training and Weapons Handling Test on the L144 A1 Cadet Small Bore Target Rifle this weekend ! This was followed up with a morning of Live Fire Marksmanship Training out on the range 👍

Cadets are taught rifle handling skills and undertake range target shooting as part of a structured programme of supervised training that emphasises safe and responsible use.

Today was an early start for our team in Eryri to complete the ascent of Elidir Fach and Elidir Fawr at the northernmost end of the Glyderau range on the final day of our trip. Varied terrain today from soft mossy ground and flat grass to rocky scree. The team worked together to bag two more summits at Mynydd Perfedd and Carnedd y Filiast with amazing views all round.
An awesome performance all weekend from a great team of cadets, Bravo Zulu 💪 !

Absolutely stunning conditions for the team in Eryri today as they headed out early for the ascent to Yr Wyddfa summit via the Rhyd Ddu path. They worked together all day to complete the 4 hour ascent and took in some cracking views from the summit before leaving the crowds behind and descending the Snowdon Ranger path to complete the 12km route. On the way down we were able to see over to the Glyderau range and identify tomorrow’s summit !
After dinner and a map reading task, it’s time for some relaxation ahead of another early start for our final day.

Yesterday a team of cadets arrived in north Wales for an adventure training weekend. We started the trip with a visit to RNLI Holyhead Lifeboat Station where their fantastic volunteers talked us through their D Class lifeboat and some of the equipment they use with cadets getting hands on !
It was back the bunkhouse for dinner and briefing about today’s mountain route, for which the weather is looking fantastic. We’ve awoken to great views of Bangor harbour before heading out to Yr Wyddfa ⛰️.

This evening a small squad of both Navy and Royal Marines Cadets took part in a short remembrance ceremony to mark the 15th anniversary of Operation Telic. Led by the Royal British Legion at the Leighton Buzzard War Memorial, two of the team also stepped forward alongside our Army Cadet Force colleagues to lay a joint Cadet Forces wreath. Great work by the team on a very warm evening 👌.

Our Junior Section were pressing on with their Green 🟢 Outdoor & Recreation modules this week. Having previously created their own miniature landscapes including growing forests 🌳, they moved onto creating their own maps and taking an imaginary journey through some of their features. This week, we investigated how some of those features are shown on a real map, checked out the legend and learned how to give a grid reference to describe a unique 100m square ! 💪

At this week’s Parade Night we welcomed back CdtSgt Rafael from a successful weekend at HMS Raleigh where he only went and retained his title as National Piping Champion for the third year in succession ! Having qualified through District and Area competitions, he was able to hold his nerve and impress the judges once more, congratulations on a hoofing performance 👏 !
Elsewhere on board, the Marine Detachment continued with their Fieldcraft programme and our Juniors created model landscapes which should begin to grow at home ready for mapping 🗺️. Our Navy Division grabbed the last of the evening sunshine outdoors, creating a spider with their seamanship skills to divide the eight directions around around a ship 👍
