Kate has supported Leigh Neighbours before (anyone remember 'Our Art Neighbourhood'?). Anyway, she's great and these sessions will be great too.

Nicky* is in her 60s and lives in the South of England. After becoming a carer for her late partner and then being made redundant from her job working in a cafe, her finances deteriorated. She’s currently looking for work, but after paying bills she has less than £60 a month for groceries.

And she isn’t alone.

So far in 2026, we've helped more than 51,000 people like Nicky with crisis support. That's the equivalent to 1 person every 30 seconds.

This shows how many household budgets have already gone beyond breaking point. With global instability threatening further price shocks, and key essential bills going up in April, we expect the number of people pushed into debt could grow further.

The government has already taken some steps in the right direction to support struggling households, such as scrapping the two-child benefit cap. However, for households at crisis point, more help is needed.

We're calling for:
1️⃣ better-targeted support for people struggling most with energy bills
2️⃣ help with soaring rent costs
3️⃣ speeding up action to get people out of debt

Well, Spring is here (almost) so we've organised another of our ever popular Dr. Bike sessions. It's on Thursday 02 April, 3pm - 6pm on Sacred Heart school playground. We're working in partnership with the council's Activation Team and they've organised some goody bags for us (first come first served!) See you then.
