🎮 LET'S TAKE A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE! 🕹️

We all had that one game we could spend hours playing as kids. Whether it was Sonic, Mario, Dizzy, Chuckie Egg or something completely different, we'd love to know which game brings back the best memories!

The best part? You might be able to play it again at the North West Computer Museum! We've got a fantastic collection of original computers, consoles and arcade machines for visitors to get hands-on with, so why not come down and see if you can rediscover an old favourite?

💚 LOCAL BUSINESSES — CAN YOU HELP US MAKE OCTOBER HALF TERM A LITTLE MORE SPECIAL? 🕹️

This October half term, we'd love to give local families the opportunity to visit the North West Computer Museum completely FREE of charge! As an award-winning, volunteer-run museum, we're passionate about making computing history accessible to everyone. Although we work hard to keep our admission prices as low as possible while covering our running costs, we understand that in the current financial climate, even a relatively inexpensive family day out can be out of reach for some.

That's why we're looking for local businesses to sponsor free family admission during October half term, giving children and their families the chance to enjoy everything our museum has to offer without worrying about the cost. From classic computers and retro consoles to arcade games and hands-on experiences, we'd love to give more local children the opportunity to explore, play and learn together with their families.

💚 Sponsorship starts from just £25, with options to suit different budgets! Whether you're a small independent business or a larger organisation, you can help make a difference.

🕹️ £25–£100 — Contribute towards free family visits.

🕹️ £125 — Sponsor a half-day of FREE family admission.

🕹️ £250 — Sponsor an entire day of FREE family admission!

In return, your business will receive a social media spotlight and a place on our sponsorship wall at the museum, recognising your generosity and support for the local community.

💾 MEET DAZ our volunteer of the week💾

Daz has been part of North West Computer Museum since the very beginning, first coming along to our Soft Opening in January 2023 — and he’s stuck with us ever since! He’s now one of our Directors, and you’ll find him at the museum every Sunday and on Wednesday evening (and for most events whether in the museum or elsewhere!).

A self-described “dirty, filthy mercenary” 😂, Daz gives up an enormous amount of his time to NWCM — helping with the technical side, fixing things (and occasionally breaking them!), jumble sales, Comic Cons and he is usually the one taking our Mobile Museum out to events.

He’s a huge Linux fan (the less said about Microsoft, the better! 😂) and, with all the machines in the museum to choose from, his favourite is the Amiga 1200.
Outside the museum, Daz owns Stellig Group, our main museum sponsor. Their sponsorship is a huge part of what enables the museum to operate as it does and, quite simply, we couldn’t do what we do without their support.

Between his own time, technical knowledge, hard work and the incredible support of Stellig Group, Daz contributes an enormous amount to NWCM. We’re incredibly grateful for everything he does to help keep the museum running, growing and moving forward.

👋 HELLO TO ALL OUR NEW FOLLOWERS! 🖥️🕹️

Well, our BBC Micro post certainly brought back a few memories for you all! We've loved reading everyone's stories, and with so many new followers joining us, we thought we'd reintroduce ourselves.

We're the North West Computer Museum, an award-winning, volunteer-run museum based in the historic Leigh Spinners Mill in Leigh, Lancashire. We're passionate about preserving computing history, but we don't believe it should all be kept behind glass! With countless machines (literally, it's very hard to keep track!), our museum takes you on a journey through decades of technology. And the best part? You can actually sit down and use most of them!

Alongside our collection of computers, you'll find classic arcade games, retro consoles and even a glimpse into the future with our virtual reality experiences. Whether you want to revisit your childhood, share those memories with your own children or discover something completely new, there's plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Behind the museum is a fantastic team of volunteers who give their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to keeping these machines running and computing history alive. We also host regular events and activities, bringing together people of all ages who share an interest in technology.

👀SNEAK PEEK👀

We’ve had LOTS going on at the museum recently, with even more to come! For those of you who haven’t made it down in the last few weeks (why haven’t you?! 👀), here’s a sneak peek at our purpose built Programming Room 💻

Packed with machines to get hands-on with and take a trip down memory lane during our museum opening hours, it’s also a dedicated space for our hands-on programming sessions with visiting schools, colleges and other groups. Our educational visits have been a huge success, so we’re really excited to now have a purpose-built space for our programming sessions! 💻📚

We want to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who have made this possible, without them we would not have been able to get these amazing rooms up and running!

🕹️ COMMODORE DAY IS BACK! 🕹️

Will you be joining us for our next Commodore Day on Saturday 5th December at Northwest Computer Museum at Leigh Spinners Mill? We’ll be celebrating all things Commodore, and we’d love to see you there!

If you fancy getting taking it a step further, why not bring along your own Commodore collection too? Tables are FREE with standard museum admission, but must be booked in advance. So bring along your machines, games, accessories and any other Commodore treasures to show off, share and celebrate with fellow enthusiasts.

Our Retro Jumble Sale is coming to the North West Computer Museum on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th October!

We’ll have a range of retro computing hardware, software and accessories to rummage through — perfect for collectors, tinkerers, gamers or anyone who just loves old tech.

There’ll be all sorts of bits and pieces, so come along, have a browse, have a chat and see what you can find! 👀
