🌍🚉 The World Cup of Stations is back!

Each year, stations from across Britain go head-to-head in the World Cup of Stations, with the public deciding which station deserves to take the crown. The theme for 2026 is “Creating connections that matter” — and we know our stations have plenty of stories to tell. 💚

Maybe your local station has helped connect you with friends and family, brought your community together, opened up access to a special place, or simply played an important part in a memorable moment.

Nows your chance to tell the world!

🗓️ Nominations close at 23:59 on Sunday 20 September 2026.

🎨🚆 Creativity at Sheffield Station!

We met today with the lovely people at Artworks South Yorkshire to plot some exciting new projects together!

You can already see some of their artists’ fantastic work on display at Sheffield Station, between Superdrug and the exit to Platform 1. It’s well worth a look next time you’re passing!

We also said hello to the Hope Valley Climate Action, who were promoting their fantastic Art Trail by Rail, High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership – encouraging people to discover the art, communities and landscapes of the Hope Valley by train. 🚆🎨

We had an enjoyable, educational and, at times, slightly scary afternoon at !

Warning Zone does sterling work teaching young people, mainly those in their final year of primary school, about the things they need to be aware of to stay safe as they take their first steps towards independence.

It was a particularly exciting day for our colleagues Paul and Anya, who saw the grand unveiling of the new rail safety experience room that they worked closely with Warning Zone to create.

Well done to you both! It was a truly brilliant experience – even for those of us who like to think we know our rail safety stuff! 🚆

You can find out more about Warning Zone at: https://warningzone.org.uk/

Our Adopters come from all ‘walks’ of life…

One of our dedicated volunteers incorporated a quick check of their station into their morning dog walk, now our Adopters pooch insists on inspecting the station on every walk morning and noon - even when not with our Adopter!

Anyone able to make us a K9 sized Pink Adopters Hi-Viz jacket?

We had a great Community Rail Partnership Officer catch-up today, with a special focus on early careers and how we can encourage more people to consider a career in the rail industry. 🚆

We explored EMR’s Early Career Strategy, learned more about the different routes into the industry, and even role-played how to deliver engaging sessions for young people!

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the session such a useful and engaging one: Derwent Valley Line Community Rail Partnership Poacher Line Community Rail Partnership Robin Hood Line North Notts & Lincs CRP Barton Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership

Today, Friends of Spondon and Spondon Historical Society unveiled a new plaque commemorating former Spondon Station Master, Henry Ernest Haines.

On 13 August 1924, Henry was tragically killed while at his desk when a lorry travelling to the neighbouring British Celanese works was unable to stop as it approached the level crossing and crashed into his office.

Our railways are full of stories — some happy, and some not so much...

We’re incredibly grateful to our dedicated Station Adopters and community groups for helping to uncover, preserve and share these stories with future generations.

So, the next time you get on a train, take a look around. What story will you discover? 🚂
