Carnival has always been about more than feathers, costumes and music.

From its Caribbean roots to the emergence of Notting Hill Carnival following the racial tensions of the late 1950s, carnival has always been a celebration of identity, resilience and community. It was created to bring people together, challenge prejudice and proudly celebrate Caribbean culture.

That spirit is just as important today.

We believe there is a world of difference between appropriation and celebration. Celebration means embracing carnival with respect, understanding its history, honouring its traditions and standing alongside the communities that have kept this culture alive for generations.

As we look ahead to Leicester Caribbean Carnival 2027, we’re inviting troupes from across the UK to join us for another unforgettable celebration of Caribbean culture, creativity and community.
