The Baldwin Trust

The Baldwin Trust Extending our aims still further, we are also pleased to arrange trips for small or family groups with a deserving family member.

The Baldwin Trust is a charitable organisation staffed by volunteers who offer adapted/wheelchair friendly narrowboat cruises on Leicestershire waterways for community or family groups. The Baldwin Trust was originally formed to help the patients of the Baldwin Ward at Leicester Frith Hospital by the provision of a narrow boat for day outings or longer holidays. This aim is now extended to include elderly, infirm and other groups of people, some in care homes, to support wellbeing and to whom a day spent in the tranquil waterway environment is especially beneficial. Our narrowboats are designed to be very "user friendly". Both are fitted with ramps and electrically operated lifts to make boarding as easy as possible and passengers in wheel chairs are most welcome. The Trust is a charitable organisation, staffed by volunteers who offer waterway outings on the River Soar and Grand Union Canal for community or family groups within Leicestershire. The cruises offered are generally from 4 hour to 7 hour duration. We can also offer shorter or longer outings by prior arrangement.

We love reading the feedback from our trips - "relaxing", "fun", "enjoyable", "friendly crew" and "will come again" are some of the most common phrases! Here is a small selection of the lovely comments we receive.

We were delighted to meet Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Kulwinder Singh Johal at the Manor Park Medical Practice open day on Saturday. The Lord Mayor joined us on a boat trip earlier this year, so we were happy to meet up again on dry land!

We love getting feedback on our trips; this one was a treat to receive:

"I was one of the Canadians on today’s boat trip led by Stewart, Paul, and Keith. They were fantastic crew members and made our trip very special. It was such a unique experience to have had in Leicester and we’d recommend the boat tour to all! Really enjoyed being able to get out and understand how the lock system works, enjoy some foods, drinks and laughs together as we toured through the river. I wanted to say thank you very much to your team for making this trip so special, making us feel at home, and laughing through our chaos!"

There is still time to enjoy a trip with us before the season ends on 31 October. Full availability and booking details are online.

Please support this wonderful local b**r festival if you can - the Baldwin Trust were the lucky recipient of their fundraising efforts last year. It's a great event, run by a super bunch! Best of luck for this weekend Western Park B**r Festival

Just a reminder that money raised from the 2026 Western Park B**r Festival (Sept 4-5th) will be going to the amazing charity Help The Homeless Leicester
