Join us for an exciting experience at the Riverside Festival in Leicester this weekend.

We will be taking part and would love for you to join us. ❤️

Leicester Riverside Festival will take place Saturday 6th June & Sunday 7th June 2026, - described as 'Leicester's Biggest Arts Festival is back, right in the heart of the city for a weekend bursting with music, food, art, family fun and vibrant waterside activity'.

On Saturday 6th June, please arrive between 10:45am to 11:00am at the Somali Development Services Centre (39 Abingdon Road, LE2 1HA), so we can walk to the event together. We will be setting up from 11:30am, with our hands -experience activities (Aalool) running from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Please be aware, we will be closed on Monday 25th May for Spring Bank Holiday, and also on the 26th & 27th for Eid celebrations.✨

On Tuesday 26th May, the recreate and design session will be moved to:

We’re excited to announce our new dates for the month of June✨✨✨

All are welcome regardless of experience as these sessions are perfect for individuals with little or no experience in sewing.

Bring along 1 or 2 slightly damaged or torn items, and we will guide you step-by-step in repairing them.

✨✨More information on the clothing swap will be posted closer to the date 📅.

Your imagination is the limit, we can’t wait to see what you make and design.

GREAT NEWS 📣📣📣NEW DATE

We are delighted to announce our Community Enviro- gardening session as part of the LEAF Project.

This session will cover everything you will need to know about gardening, using the correct soil and composting and most importantly, caring for your plants, so you can grow your own fruits and vegetables at home. We will also be having safety training to protect you and others.

All tools and materials are provided to you – just bring yourself and your family and be ready to learn and grow with gardening with SDS.

🔥🔥🔥We're excited to announce our new dates for the month of May - Sewing and creative sessions.

All are welcome regardless of experience as these sessions are perfect for individuals with little or no experience in sewing. Bring along 1 or 2 slightly damaged or torn items, and we will guide you step-by-step in repairing them.

Excited news, we have two sessions of the Recreate where you can upcycle your leftover scrap materials in hair accessories - hair ties, headband and more. On Tuesday 26th May, we welcome our service users to recreate and redesign their Somali Dirac.

Your imagination is the limit, we can't wait to see what you make and design.

Last week, we at Somali Development Services were excited to be invited to 'Together We Can 2026: Health Equality Summit delivered by the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS (UHL).

It was a valuable opportunity to highlight our effective approaches to tackling health inequality in communities in Leicester, while also sharing best practices to help improve outcomes for those facing the greatest barriers.

A sincere thank you to the organiser of the health summit for bringing together such an impact event, and to all of the speakers for sharing impactful information and raising awareness of these essential services.
