At a time when life can feel uncertain, LOROS Day Hospice provides a welcoming space where people can socialise, make meaningful friendships and realise they're not alone.

This we're highlighting that friendships can begin at any stage of life.

Jules, 59, and Caroline, 42, met just four weeks ago at Day Hospice. Since then, they've discovered a shared love of 80s music, enjoyed quizzes and crafts together, and found comfort in connecting with others who understand.

Caroline said: "It's lovely talking to people and sharing our experiences, both good and bad. We meet people at different stages of their journey, but we're all here for the same reasons and we connect over that."

Jules added: "I have a big supportive family anyway, but it's lovely to talk to different people. Some people that attend spend a lot of time on their own, so it's really important for them.

We love the quizzes as everyone interacts with eachother. They cover a mixture of ages and are so inclusive."

Friendships like Jules and Caroline's show that even in life's most challenging moments, new connections can bring comfort. 💛

We want to give a heart felt thankyou to Eden the Brave for providing Father’s Day bags for all the inpatient dads today on the ward, as well as funding a tea party for all the dads and families to enjoy on Sunday for Father’s Day 🥰

We also would like to send a massive Thankyou to Gap Property and Electrical Services who have today given the ward 4 bean bags for our patients to enjoy on the ward, day care and the teen room. As well as this they have gifted us 2 new baby soothers that can be attached to a cot, worry monsters to help with play therapy and a new Buzzy which will help provide distraction and to block needle pain.

Thankyou so much we really appreciate you 🥰

Until you have lived this, you really do not know why we ask for what we do and why I spend 16 hours a day fighting.

This was my life for days on end when Hugh was being treated. A pull-down bed. A laptop. Headphones. Takeaways. Urine bowls used to store Lego pieces because you make do with whatever is around you. And worse than all of that… a child fighting for their life no more than six inches away from you.

Our beds practically touching through the night. No room for nurses to squeeze past without nudging you awake at 3am. No privacy. No switch off. No escape. Just machines, fear, exhaustion and survival.

And every night, holding his hand while he fell asleep because he was scared. Trying to be strong enough for him, while inside you were falling apart yourself.

And the thing people do not always understand is this was often unplanned. This wasn’t a scheduled stay where you mentally prepared yourself. This was a temperature of 38 degrees at 10pm when you are getting ready for bed thinking life might feel normal for one night. Then boom… three days in hospital because of infection risk.

This became our world. And it still is for so many parents tonight.

So I ask again… what would you do if it was your child?

Would your world collapse? Would you feel like curling up and dying some nights? Would you do absolutely anything to take the pain away from your child?

Because that is why we campaign. That is why we push for better mental health support. That is why we ask for Hugh’s Law and Hugh’s Report.

Not for sympathy. For humanity.

💜 A little story from Damien Bedford, Eden’s father:

“Hi everyone,

I’m sharing this in memory of my beautiful daughter, who we sadly lost on Boxing Day 2024 after her brave fight with AML at just 2 years old.

No child should have to go through what she did, and no family should have to face that kind of heartbreak. Throughout everything, she showed more strength and courage than we could ever have imagined — she truly was our little warrior.

We are raising money for Eden the Brave, a charity supporting children and families affected by cancer. Their work helps provide comfort, support, and care during the most difficult times, and it means so much to families like ours.

This fundraiser is our way of honouring her life, keeping her memory alive, and helping other children and families who are going through similar journeys.

If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to us. And if you can’t, sharing this page would help more than you know.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting such an important cause.

Forever loved, forever missed 🩷💜”
