Last thursday the Westcotes group enjoyed a talk from Helen Wilber from Leicester Animal Aid.
We found out about all of the amazing work that goes on behind the scenes in order to find forever homes for all the cats and dogs that come into their care. Some need special care to help them overcome the stress of being there and it was heartwarming to hear all the stories about some of the animals that have found a home for life.
Helen also brought in a display board with pictures of animals that still need rehoming, so if any of you are thinking of getting a pet, it is well worth talking to them first.
Their next meeting on the 2nd July 2026 is a talk about the life of Malcolm Sargent. There will be more news on that nearer the time.
Contact Jo on 0116 2543106 or email [email protected] for more information.

We would like to thank one of our members Shirley Burnett for helping us out of a spot when the Ukulele Band we had booked unfortunately couldn't make it. With only three days notice Shirley was asked if she would do a flower arranging demonstration for our Westcotes group.
She bought foliage from her garden and bought some supermarket flowers and showed us all how to make them look even better by doing two lovely displays. She talked about various flowers and told us about the meaning of their names as well as some stories behind them.
There were around 30 members and residents who came to watch and considering she was a bit nervous having never done anything like this before she smashed it!
Thanks Shirley.
