The Rotary Club of Leicester

The Rotary Club of Leicester One of the oldest Rotary Clubs in the United Kingdom. Our members living in, or whose business or organisation serves, Leicester.

We meet Monday at lunchtime at the Mercure Hotel & Wednesday evenings at Leicester University Brookfield business campus. The Rotary Club of Leicester is one of the oldest Rotary Clubs in the United Kingdom, with members, drawn from men and women living in, or whose business serves, the City of Leicester. In today's increasingly busy working environment where lunch breaks are rarely taken, it is p

leasant to get away to lunch and interact with fellow members of the local business and professional community regularly, for just a short time. Alternatively, we offer a bi-monthly evening option with our Impact Group. The Club's accent is on fellowship and service projects for the benefit of those less fortunate than ourselves. Directly, and through the worldwide Rotary movement, our Club cares for the local community and for the world through our international service, particularly in developing countries such as water purification and supply projects. Equally, Rotary cares for the people of the world through programmes such as the Rotary Foundation which among many other things provides scholarships for young people to study in other countries. The Foundation is also leading PolioPlus - a 20-year campaign started in 1985 in partnership with international and national bodies with the aim of totally eliminating the scourge of polio. Over 75 million children and adults at risk were immunised on a single day as part of the Polio Plus campaign. In addition to the Club's work in practical community, vocational and international assistance, and fund-raising, throughout the year there are a range of social events such as visits to firms and other places of interest to which partners and friends are invited. There are also many opportunities to join with Rotarians from other Clubs who share similar outside interests. Membership of Rotary is by invitation, but the Rotary Club of Leicester always welcomes enquiries from professionals, businessmen, businesswomen, and community leaders living and/or working in the City and County.

Last week, we were proud to donate over 100 sanitary products and toiletries to support the incredible work of the New Futures Project 💙

The New Futures Project delivers vital welfare and counselling services for women and young people facing challenges such as sexual abuse or exploitation, domestic violence, trafficking, poverty and debt, substance use, and mental ill-health.

Our newly formed partnership with The Hygiene Bank & Your Smalls Appeal has already begun to make a difference—and will enable us to support even more women and girls across our community.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our efforts to make a positive impact. 🌟

Our annual Easter Egg Drive was again a great success - organised by the Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group 🐣🍫

Thanks to the incredible generosity from all our members and partners, we were able to donate easter eggs to AGE UK Leicestershire & Rutland, Love4Life, Goldhill Adventure and the Focus Group—helping to bring smiles to both young people and the elderly across our community.

Love4Life has around 250 young girls typically aged around 11–18. Offering a mentoring and support programme to help them build confidence, self-worth and healthy relationships.

Goldhill Adventure Playground is a community-based project in Leicester that provides a safe, supportive space for children and young people—particularly those who may be vulnerable or need extra support.

Focus Group works mainly with 13–25 year olds, especially those who may be vulnerable or facing challenges. Their overall aim is to help young people develop skills, confidence and aspirations so they can lead positive, fulfilling lives and contribute to their communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this possible, including our valued partnerships with HSBC Bank, Brookfield Business School and the Cubs at the 9th Leicester Scout Group. Your support truly made a difference.

It’s amazing to see what can be achieved when a community comes together—spreading kindness, joy and a little bit of Easter magic to those who need it most 💛

🎁 A huge thank you to the wonderful staff at Brookfield Business School for their generous donations to support the ‘Give A Gift’ project led by the Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group.

Through our valued partnership with Age UK Rutland & Leicestershire, these thoughtful gifts will be given to vulnerable elderly people on their birthdays — helping to remind them that they are remembered, valued, and not alone. A simple gift can bring so much joy, happiness, and comfort, making their special day truly meaningful.

This project shows how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our community. 💜

If you or your organisation would like to get involved and help us bring smiles to more people, please get in touch with the Rotary Club of Leicester. Together, we can continue spreading kindness and celebrating those who deserve it most.

🎨 What an inspiring evening with the Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group judging entries for the Rotary Young Artist Competition!

We were absolutely blown away by the incredible standard of artwork submitted. The creativity, imagination, and talent on display made judging both a privilege and a real challenge. Every piece told its own story, and it’s clear that the future of art is in very capable hands.

The Rotary Young Artist Competition, organised by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (Rotary GB&I), youth programmes, gives young people the opportunity to express themselves creatively, build confidence, and showcase their artistic abilities. It’s about far more than competition — it’s about encouragement, opportunity, and celebrating young talent.

A huge well done to everyone who entered. You should all be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved. 👏

🌍 A Walk With Purpose – Supporting End Polio Now 💜🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

In October, members of the Rotary Club of Leicester and the Impact Group proudly joined forces with the CFWHub to raise awareness and vital funds in support of Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign.

This inspiring collaborative event brought our community together in a spirit of health, unity, and service — reflecting Rotary’s ongoing global mission to eradicate polio once and for all.

👣 The Day at a Glance
Our charity walk guided participants past several places of worship across Leicester — a route carefully chosen to represent inclusivity, shared purpose, and the strength found in different faiths and backgrounds walking side by side.

We set off from Stoneygate Baptist Church, greeted with warm hospitality and refreshments. After returning to the church, participants enjoyed further fellowship and a chance to reflect on the day.

💉 Following the walk, a national vaccination van was stationed at the church as part of the National Vaccination Programme, reinforcing the importance of public health and prevention. Later, attendees gathered in the hall to hear speakers share powerful insights about the fight against polio and the role vaccination continues to play worldwide.

💜 Together We Made an Impact
Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved, an amazing £720 was raised for the End Polio Now campaign. With Gift Aid and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation adding $2 for every $1 raised, our total will reach approximately £1,500.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to all who participated, supported, and helped spread the message. Every step brings us closer to a world free from polio. 💜🌍

One of the privileges of being Club President is the ability to recognise a fellow member for their outstanding service to both our Club and Rotary International. At our lunch on Monday at The Grand Hotel, I was delighted to present Rotarian Nick Thomson with a Paul Harris Fellowship. Nick has been a stalwart of our Club, where he has held a number of offices and has taken the lead on a series of projects, including our highly successful Technology Tournament. Nick, thank you for your service.

Since 1985, Rotary and its partners have immunised over 2.5 billion children worldwide. That’s billions of families who no longer live in fear of a disease that once devastated lives and communities.
But the fight isn’t over. Polio remains endemic in only a few areas, and until we eradicate it everywhere, children worldwide are at risk. That’s why events like our Walk & Wheel are so vital — they remind us that together, step by step, we can achieve a world free of polio.

World Polio Day is on 24th October, a global day of action and awareness. Our Walk & Wheel on 25th October will be raising crucial funds to continue the fight to eradicate polio.
