During today's Melton Mowbray & District’s St. George’s Day Parade and Church Service, one of our long-standing members, Alan Drage, was presented with his Chief Scout’s 50 Years of Service Award – an incredible milestone.

His contribution to Scouts spans many years, including his time as a Venture Scout Leader (now known as Network) and his continued involvement as a valued member of the Syston Scout & Guide Band. His dedication, leadership, and commitment have made a lasting impact on generations of young people and on our Scout Group as a whole.

We are extremely proud to see this achievement recognised and extend our sincere congratulations on this remarkable milestone.

Thank you for 50 years of exceptional service to Scouts. 👏

We’re proud to be taking part in today’s St George’s Day parade! 🥁🎺

Keep an eye (and an ear!) out for Syston Scout & Guide Band as we march through — we’ll be bringing the music and the energy to this brilliant local tradition.

If you’re coming along, give us a wave and a cheer 👋

Tomorrow's St George's Day parade starts off from the Thorpe End car park at 12.45pm. Go along and give them all a cheer.
Scouts, Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Explorers and their adult volunteers will be taking part in this popular annual tradition.

✨ What an incredible night! ✨
Last Friday, we came together for our 2025 Scouts Awards Evening — a celebration of courage, kindness, teamwork and the amazing achievements of our young people and our volunteers.

From conquering challenges to supporting others, from hilarious mishaps to heroic efforts, our awards reflected everything that makes our group so special. This year we recognised an exciting range of fun and meaningful categories, including:

🏅 Face Your Fears
🏅 The Tigger Award
🏅 Bossing It
🏅 In Time for Tea
🏅 The Wrong Direction
🏅 Styling It Out
🏅 Getting Stuck In
🏅 Bravery & Determination
🏅 Up-and-Coming Leaders
🏅 360 Award
🏅 Epic Fail
🏅 Rising to the Occasion
🏅 The Tom & Jerry Award
🏅 Above and Beyond

Each award tells a story — and over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing an Awards Spotlight Series to celebrate the amazing individuals behind them. Keep an eye out! 👀✨

🌟 The Hedgehog Awards 🌟
A special part of the evening was honouring our very own Hedgehog Award, created in memory of our much-loved leader and friend Dave Lucas.
Dave’s passion for helping young people to give their very best — even through the toughest challenges — continues to inspire us every day. Each section of the group nominated a young person who truly embodies that spirit. We’re incredibly proud of all our Hedgehog Award recipients. 🦔💙

🎖️ We also celebrated a number of Chief Scout Awards, recognising outstanding achievements across the youth sections — plus 5-year and 20-year service awards for our dedicated volunteers, and even a Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service. Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, energy and heart to Scouting. We simply couldn’t do it without you.

💚 To everyone who received an award — and everyone who helps make our group what it is — congratulations and thank you. Here’s to another year of adventure! 🌲🔥

🏁Russ completed the Leicester Half Marathon — running 13.1 miles in memory of his brother Dave 💙, who gave so much to Syston Scouts as a Beaver Leader and a leader and member of the Syston Scout & Guide Band .

We’re so proud of Russ for taking on this incredible challenge and raising funds for two causes close to his heart — Brain Tumour Research and Syston Scout Group.
So far, he’s raised an amazing £667 for Brain Tumour Research and £494 for Syston Scouts! 🙌

Thank you to everyone who has supported him — every penny truly makes a difference.

Donations will remain open for another week or so, so there’s still time to show your support:
