Planning on taking *rugs this weekend?

Here’s our hard and fast advice for having fun but staying safe!

⬇️ 🕥 START LOW, GO SLOW
Pace yourself if you’re using any substances, and that includes alcohol.

✅ MAKE A PLAN
Get a plan together to get you through the night (and out the other side).

🎧 LEAVE THE MIXING TO THE DJ
Avoid mixing drugs, including with alcohol. It can increase the risk of unwanted effect.

👃BE SMART ABOUT SUPPLIES
Snoring straws can pick up small particles that may carry infectious diseases.

💧TAKE BREAKS AND STAY HYDRATED
Sip water but don’t drink over a pint an hour. Take breaks from dancing and give yourself time to cool down.

👍LOOK AFTER YOUR MATES
Let your friends know what you’re taking, stay together and arrange a meet up place in case you get lost.

🏥 WELFARE ARE YOUR FRIENDS
Don’t be afraid to go see the medics if you or a friend feel unwell - remember they are there to help you!

🚪 HAVE AN EXIT PLAN
Know when you plan to stop and hopefully reduce the crash and come down over the next few days.

Such an amazing evening hearing all about Mental Health pathways across Leicester City, making excellent connections and indulging in fabulous food.

Huge thanks to Leicester Working Together for creating such a wonderful event full of insightful speakers from the NHS, community organisations and statutory organisations.

We left with a solid understanding of all the FREE support available, an extended network of contacts and very full tummies!

We can’t wait for the next one 🙌

We had a fabulous time at our very first Leicester Riverside Festival.

Huge thanks to everyone who came to speak to us, hear about the Recovery Street Film Festival, take on a beer goggles challenge, try out a mocktail or find out more about our free and confidential support for adults and young people.

It was such a lovely weekend the rain on Saturday didn’t dampen our spirits one little bit. We loved meeting every single one of you, helping amuse little ones with hook a duck and hoopla, and reassuring people that we’re a safe space for conversations around drinking and *rugs 👍

If you’d like to make changes, head to our website and fill out the self-referral form or visit us on Friar Lane. You don’t need to be referred by a doctor to access Turning Point support!

You can find us in the Live Well area on DMU campus where we’ll have beer goggles challenges and lots of helpful resources for anyone who’d like to make changes when it comes to *rugs and alcohol.

Many of our team have lived experience so you can be sure we aren’t here to judge (whatever the circumstances) cos we’ve probably been there and got the T shirt!
